I had my secondary off and all I recall coming off was a bolt and large washer on the face of it.
Is there a spacer that slides on the jack shaft previous to the clutch going on?
It seems to take alot of turns to get from finger tight to 48 ft/lbs.

the aluminum main bolt has an aluminum collar along with shims and a flat washer on the outboard side of the clutch. there may or may not have been washers between the clutch and the frame.
48 ft lbs would be major overkill on that bolt.

There is nothing on the inboard side and 2 washers on the outboard side along with the shoulder bolt. Are the washers the "shims" you refer to?
Service manual calls for 46 ft/lbs.

you should have 2 to 3 shims over that alum collar that the bolt goes thru..nothing goes on the shaft before the secondary does..Look it up on the parts fiche on any supplier selling Yamaha Parts..

the collar is an aluminum "tube" of sorts, for lack of a better term. fits inside the clutch but not over the jackshaft. if your referencing a service manual, look at the secondary sheave section under power train. it should clearly show a picture of the collar.
the large inside diameter washers will fit over the collar, except the large flat washer for the bolt. your offset is set by these washers.

I think I'm missing that whole collar. The bolt as it is, goes into a cavern until it reaches the shaft.
Just another mystery solved on a sled that seems to have been built from spare parts. The list of fixes just keeps on growing.
Thankfully all cheap fixes. Motor runs strong and the Ohlin suspension works good. Well, as good as it ever will. lol
Thanks guys. I'll pull it back off tomorrow after work and see whats going on.

how does that zircon stud finder apply to sled repair? at least i assume its a stud finder. always up for new tricks.
to the original poster, your shim washers stack may be larger unless you have reverse as well.

Lol, I was screwing a bracket the ceiling of the garage to hang the back of the sled from... That's what the stud finder was for

Pretty sure it's 2 washers on mine although they are rusted together as 1.

I wander how someone could forget to put that alum collar and shims back in.Usually you pull all that out together with the bolt. Can't see how someone could not realize that collar wasn't there.I am sure someone close by may have an extra to give you...or there is always the dealer I guess.

maybe you can make one up temporarily .Someone who has their's off on the bench can give you the length and diameter in and out maybe until you get a proper one...

Like I said. Just adds to the long list of fixes. I think the sled was built from spare parts. lol
So the washers on the bolt in the pic are the shims your talking about? Or are there more parts then just the collar?
I'm going to go give that washer a smack and see if it's 2 pieces. brb

The washer in the pic is 1/8" thick and it's one piece, not 2 stuck together as I thought.
So I'm missing spacers too? I have bins full of washers.

It's all wrong. Now I'm wondering what else is pieced together with this clutch or jackshaft.
First pic is the clutch sitting out flush with the bolt and washer.
Second pic is of the clutch pushed towards the bulkhead. It slides right up to the jack bearing and leaves the collar and shims hanging out the face of the clutch. Fired it up and you can see the bolt wobble slightly. Obviously wrong.
Third is of the bolt, washer collar and shims. Looks like the wrong length collar?
Is the collar different between the years?
Should I be able to push and pull the clutch in and out like that?
The bolt is 3-1/2" end to end and the collar is 2" long and does not fit over the bolt very tightly. There is about 1/8" play
