I have an 8BU-00 set up for 660 drags and recently i put a brand new 8DN (Washed it with soap and water and scuffed the belt as well as the clutches) and it threw everything way off?? ... my clutches got hot, motor couldnt pull RPM, and secondary twist adjustements made no difference in RPM...
Goin back to my old belt tomorrow but it is fairly worn and id like to know how to get this problem fixed because i wount be able to run on my current 8DN forever!
Anyone else experiance this kind of problem?
(Oh I also spaced out the secondary to stop the ``double shift``and although it did help the double shift Im still having issues with belt slip and RPM)
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Just a thought but did you compare the 2 belt for circomferance?I know that I had a brand new 8DN belt and put it on my sled before a ride, started the sled up and went inside for a minute to talk to someone and when I came back out the clutches were squeeling like a cat was stuck in there.Consequently it burned 3 or 4 lugs down on the belt where the primary was turning against them.I was not impressed, here I have a brand new belt with 0 miles on it and it's basically a spare now to be used when I have no other choice.
I read a post by a member on here a year or so ago that he will take a belt that he knows works right on his sled to a dealer and pick out a new belt by holding up new belts to the good one to make sure they aren't too long or short. You'd be surprised at how much difference there can be in new belts, even ones made for Yamaha who traditionally really scrutinize their parts vendors and make sure exacting standards are stuck to.

Checked it today... exact same belt...( 8DN 01) didnt measure circumference but seemed very close...
Put my old belt back on and brought my sec twist back to where it was before and bang at least 2-3 lengths faster!...
Only problem is there is a cord comming out of the belt...
You guys have any special " techniques" to keep it from getting worse?

I am maybe a hundred miles in to a new yamaha belt. The new part number 01. The center is tight on the primary and has worn the center of the belt down. I noticed that the belt rides a lot higher in the secondary that the old yamaha belts did. Are you supposed to spread out the secondary a little bit with some washers or some thing to avoid this? Why did they change the belts?
If it aint broke, dont fix it!

usually when a new belt goes in,take all the washers off the 3 bolts on backside of 2ndary.I just did this a few weeks back on the SRX.As belt wears, you can add .5mm washer and then increase to 1mm washer.I even found some washers thinner then the .5mm and tried it in there..belt squealed a little. So this tells you that you were good to go prior..

I always wash a new belt.but as mod said I shouldn't wash it after it has been used.I did that and from one day to the next my rpm dropped 400 and that started a big issue for me.I was re adjusting weights..etc.Then mod told me to install a new belt and rpm came back up and she was good again. Now this was because I washed the belt again from last season.Don't know HOW washing it in hot water and soap could do this with the belt. The water was just Black from doing this.I use that belt as backup or throwing it out..but REMEMBER to WASH a BRAND NEW BELT from day one as it has oils and silicone on the belt from the moulding process.modsrx said:and blue found out it was bad to wash a belt lolll

just experienced almost the exact same issue going from the 00 to the 01 last weekend. almost ruined the ride until i swapped back to the older style belt. significant difference in performance between the two. its almost like the 01's are even harder compound over the 00's.
something was changed in dimension between the two belts, any one recall the specs?

THE 01 BELT IS HARDER COMPOUND AND IS FOR THE 4 STROKES. I ALSO BELIEVE ITS A TAD WIDER THEN THE 00. I THINK LENGTH IS THE SAME. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I measured an 89L and 8Dn belt..wow what a big difference ..how could anyone have used 89L when it is shorter .But can't see 8DN belts really differ over the years I have used them.

Good Info guys, Thanks!
Oh and as i was wondering before is there any way to save a belt that the cord has started comming out or is it safe to say its time to work with the new one.
I would only be using it on race day while i wear in my new belt trail riding it.
Again all of your input is greatly appreciated!

Dealer told me the -00 are all done. Bought the -01 and it fu(ked everything. Called them today. Said the -00 are no longer made. Asked for my money back cause I got 3spares that work better than this thing. No go. Yamaha is heading out of the snowmobile game. Bums me out...
P.s. I asked for a -00 at 3 dealers. Only one had a -00 that was 50 mins away. Didn't go and now it gone.

I dont know about that statement
I have a new 01 belt that I just installed and it is also chirps like the birds. No shims and brand new screws. Do I have to move the motor to adjust clutch because of the new Yamaha belt?

I have taken a match or small flame to burn off the exposed cords but I doubt it will stop it from unraveling again.shigawaker said:Good Info guys, Thanks!

Why would Yamaha discontinue the old belt? They have to know its going to cause issues with the older sleds. The belts were perfect. You would think they can get the 2 versions manufactured. There has to be a demand for them.
If its not the same, they should have a warning on the packaging. Maybe even some tips for adjusting clutching so you don't destroy a brand new belt.

I don't notice a difference really. My clutches are aligned.I just installed a new belt a few weeks back..no squeal with it when breaking it in and still fine.I do not use any shims in the back of secondary now.
