I cant even imagine how mutch work it was to design a A arm sled like the rx1/ apex with a 4 cyl 4 stroke that takes the same size belt as the old trailing arm sled.It had to be started with that in mind!

I dunno i start seeing red when guys start bitching about this company over silly little things like dip sticks and not haveing there faverite belts for there 10 year old sleds. They are not trying to suck anybody into new sleds but more like trying to stay afloat and make a profit in todays marketplace.

Anybody feal the same way or is it crow for dinner tonight?

my swap over reminded me of the old days when swapping between 87X's and 89L's on the 600's. the L's being harder compound always took adjustments over the softer X's.

no biggy on the number change, it was just a little disappointing putting on a new belt and not realizing what i was in for so many miles from the truck. i am guessing a harder compound on the 01? back to the drawing board with clutching.

perhaps someone has info from a technical bulletin as to the change?

since my sxr600 and srx take the 8dn-00's and the Ultimax SRX belt is xs805,they don't use that for my 600 They use 138-4416U4.This belt is about 44 3/4 round, closer to the 8dn-00's. The 805 is about 45 1/8,way to large..

Per Hartman Inc XS805 is 4 stroker, 138-4432U4 is ALL two strokers. Which cant be 100% correct, cant be for all 2 stroke yamaha's. I had a brand new 138-4416U3 (I know U3 slightly differant version but same size) That I had bought for a 95 vmax 600 twin(per book at dealer). Tried it on 2 SRX 700's and a SxR 700. All are aligned perfectly and center to center is spot on and it was squealing like a stuck pig. Gave it to a buddy that has Sx500R and works like champ on his sled.

Just spoke with a Carlisle engineer. The newer "top cog" design, has a 'projected' T.W.(top width) & O.D.(outside diameter) because of the top cog design. For the same application, a smooth top belt will have different dimensions.
The U3 has been superceeded. The U4 took its place.
We also had a NOS 138-4416U3 that I put on my son-in-laws 01 SX500R. VERY, VERY happy w/ its performance. From here on out, a 138-4432U4 will be replacing the 89L on my daughters 96 XT & my sons SX6.

My top pick is the 8GS belt for the phazers! Worked flawlessly for 2 and a half years of abuse so far

i just switched from an 00 belt to a 01 belt after mine blew, the clutch actually ran cooler with the 01 than they did with the 00 and the up shift was more aggressive. no slipping at all with this new belt

If you install a brand new belt and cant adjust the squeal out of it, why not warm your sled up sitting on a lift so the track spins and then ride it. Or warm it with out the belt on. After it is broke in it wont squeal anymore.

Did you check your center to center with a drop on tool? I do that on my srx, and I've had no problems with the new 01 belt. If anything, I gained some speed.

I full agree.

When we drag raced these sleds we would visit all the Yammi dealers in the area and measure the belts they had in stock. We always picked the same length belts then washed them up and broke them in on a stock sled. At that point we would put the belt into our race bin.
All manufactures have tolerances for products. If you are racing these issues are far more critical so do your homework and check things.
