Adding oil to a tank of gas on a fresh rebuild is a GREAT IDEA....Leave the oil pump setting alone... Burning more oil actually helps the rings / bores from getting TOO HOT and changing the HARDNESS of the piston rings!!! OIL does effect the cleanliness of powervalves.... The FLASH POINT of oil and the cylinder temperatures have some effect and so does the DRIVING HABITS and trail/riding conditions also have to play into effect.. IT PISSES ME OFF when people corelate OIL BRANDS WITH carbon deposits on powervalves...bluewho said:What is your take gary on adding oil to a tank of gas after a rebuild.
Leaveing the pump on stock setting?Leaner?
Does oil really effect power valves or is all the gas...blowby of a older moter....hotter pipes..

nosboy said:Well,,, 1st of all,, your trail sled is NOT A RACE SLED and does not ACT the same way!!! I have a RACE CAR and if I let you take it to the local AUTO PARTS STORE,, you and it would NEVER MAKE IT!!! But yet it can run 140MPH in 10 seconds FLAT (almost).. Do you see my point????
nosboy said:The only reason that I DON'T LIKE CASTROL,,, is because JOHN FORCE gets it for FREE and I HAVE TO PAY for the stuff!!! Do you know why JOHN FORCE uses AUTOLITE SPARK PLUGS?????? Because they're FREE also!!!!!! Don't mind me,,, just HATEIN!!!
Now THAT is a good break down on this subject!!!!!!!!!! Good job Phats!PhatboyC said:Seems like a regular 2 stroke engine can't get the best of both worlds. Clean and lubricated.
We want a good lubricating oil to protect the internals but has to burn easily so it doesn't leave sludge... When it does burn and escape through the exhaust we don't want it to create smoke...
Then we put in quality fuel that has lot's of detergent (or we add our own in the fuel tank) to prevent/remove carbon deposit and keep our carburetor clean. But the more detergent we run the harder it is on the oil.
Seems contradictory many ways you look at it.

If your point is that I couldn't drive your 10 second door slammer to the corner store, no, I don't see your point. Well, maybe if you didn't fuel it first perhaps.
You make a lot of assumptions. I'm sure you know what happens when you do that.
...and you have me a bit confused (not hard to do). Are you saying you run Klotz in your trail sled? I thought it was the bees knees for race sleds but not so much for the trail. Or is it that Klotz only works well in YOUR trail sled.
Dude, you're so predictable. Did you also serve in Vietnam?
