Why would you pull over a 4-stroke?
Like with any hobby, we sledders suffer from tradition.

Higher HP would be nice, but Yamaha just hasn't seen evidence that makes it cost effective . . . yet. Give it time.

A simple test would be to start at one end of Lake Gogebic and hold them wide open to the other end. I'm pretty sure the Yamaha not only will be the first but most likely the only one to arrive! This actually happened with a friend of mine in Door County on the Bay of Green Bay during late season riding. It was a very warm day with sloppy conditions on the ice, a few Cat riders were talking smack so my friend challenged them, He pegged his girlfriends 05 Vector all the way back to Sturgeon Bay (Approx. 13 Miles). Two of the Cats had meltdowns!!
I just feel that the Yamaha Iron is rock solid, breakdowns in the middle of nowhere can really put a damper on your fun, worrying it may happen is a close second!

hell a 100 is good enough for me......

i would always like more power, but then again i have never been on anything that couldnt use more power. once you get used to it it doesnt have the same rush anymore. do i feel the 150 is lacking? heck no! it pulls like a turbine from the bottom end and doesnt stop until it hits top speed!2001SRX=Fast said:Dont you guys think that there should be a higher Hp model? like a h.o version or no. Are you able to even pull start a 4 cylinder 4 stroke???

Just when I think they're getting better and better others think they're falling behind??

sounds good. im curious how the clutching will work. i suppose the best comprimise would be just short of the rev limiter on the bottle, so the performance doesnt suffer so bad off the bottle. 10,200-10,300 off the bottle and 11,000 on the bottle?ejcamaro said:Not yet, the tank is filled and ready though, just gotta get home and pull the trigger in the hayfield......soon.!!

I have to say...There are reasons why i still ride yamaha and (i think) always will. Just the weight is hard to get used to after riding my SX.
I think the attack/apex are much better riding though... would love to own one of those babies.

I have to look at my spec sheet, but yeah, thats what I'm lookin for. I have Allens clutch kit that Terry helped set up, so it should be close. I'm not 100% sure I have the nads to hold it open long enough in my field though, its not totally flat!!!n2oiroc said:sounds good. im curious how the clutching will work. i suppose the best comprimise would be just short of the rev limiter on the bottle, so the performance doesnt suffer so bad off the bottle. 10,200-10,300 off the bottle and 11,000 on the bottle?my rev limiter kicks in around 11,200, but i wouldnt want to run under 10,500 off the bottle, so 60 hp shot should be about a 500 rpm increase?

Man and I thought the cross fire 1000 looked like a good sled. Good thing I kept it a secret. Maxdlx

Apex GT 150 hp 557 LBS $11,199.00
Mach z 172 hp 529 LBS $11,149.00
F 1000 SNO PRO 162 hp 515 LBS $11,899.00
Also i read in a magazine that the F1000 can be easily boosted to 187 hp with only a few mods (intake, exaust, and efi addjustment). Do you guys feel yamaha is slowly falling farther behind in the hp range. I know yamaha is very conservative but still i am expecting atleast 175hp sled for 08. Yamaha is Also the most heavy and the least power. I know you guys are going to say" Ya but it is a 4 stroke. I dont care I want power with putting a turbo on.
One more if they came out with a apex with a 175 hp they should call it the APEX srx. kinda like the phazer bringing back the old sled names and i like srx's. I want your comments.
Last time I talked to you, You were selling your SRX. You said you were not buying another sled because of the lack of snow. So besides what YOU HAVE READ, HERE ARE A few cold hard facts.
*Most people who know us and see us on the trails want nothing to do with my STOCK ATTAK, and We Ride Double. Lasty year on Devils Creek while riding double we RAN & BEAT two Mach Z 1000's
*Those HP #'s are not always what they say they are, A big twin 1000 with A LOT OF ISSUES. You have to mod those OTHER sleds just to keep up with A YAMAHA.
*Plus just a few Clutching Mods on the APEX's and they get real quick real fast. Plus a few other tricks that I'm NOT TELLING YOU ABOUT, Makes these sleds REALLY ROCK & ROLL.
*I've had a 04 Warrior & a 06 Attak; I'm not the least bit Bothered by NOT HAVING A RECOIL..................They START IN THE VERY VERY COLD.....Every Time

*I've had about 5k Miles of seat time on these four strokes, and have just about heard it all from ALL KINDS of Riders

**Remember You Had or Still Have a SRX; and I've heard you tell everyone how fast it is..................APEX's R Faster Bro, Right Out Of The Box. I really DON'T CARE WHAT THE MAGAZINES HAVE TO SAY. I do My Own Testing, You Should To.
*I'm not sure just how fast you think you need to go or how much HP you think you need....But....Turbo's & Supercharger's just flat out ROCK, I drove a Turbo'd Monster, They WILL DESTROY ALL COMERS! It will SCARE YOU!!!
Now I'm not trying to give you a hard time; Just telling you what I've seen. Ask anyone who has riden my ATTAK Or Seen It Streak Bye...........Fast & Rides Great & Has Great Gas Milage & Gets You There & Back Everytime............What else can you ask for.

I don't know if any ones mentioned this (didn't read all the posts) But what about the torque numbers? Theres alot to be said about a long flat torque curve.....sled will pull hard from lower RPM's and just keep on pulling.
Also look at Turbo Apex's...yea I know is $4000 bucks but you end up with a 270-280 hp monster thats still reliable....how much would you have to put into a F-1000 to see HP numbers like that and then would it be reliable?

BTW........
........Yamaha HAS LEAD THE WAY SINCE THEY BROUGHT OUT THE VMAX4 IN 1992
They have been KING OF THE HILL SINCE THEN.
I don't see much of that changing just yet..........DO YOU?

VERY GOOD POINT

So far I see guys with MTN Turbo's that have 5,000 Miles of trouble free driving, some even higher. Here at home I know of twoTurbo's that have the same type of mileage.....Problem Free. Some guys Ashfault race their Turbo's in the summer/fall then convert them over for winter...........Just like the BUNNY....they keep going & going & going & going. These motors run Harder and Smoother than A 2 Stroke, you can run them Way Leaner too without a problem....not that you should; but a 2 Stroke isn't as forgiving that's all.

WoW. I was just talking about stock hp numbers. You guys are talking to me like i called your mother a bad name. I was not saying Yamaha was bad or anything like that Just dissapointed with hp numbers.
Some one who told me to get on a apex: i have i ridden a gt and a rtx and i love them....
Bounty hunter: I have ridden turbo'd rx-1 and vector i know how fast they are. But to me a turbo is in its own class. I did sell my srx are the begining of last winter but bought another one this summer. Ill have to catch you in the park some time this winter.

Not saying the Apex's are any slower, but to say they are faster then an SRX would not be an accurate statement. We have also done our own testing and the SRX comes on top with us. These two sleds are a toss up in a drag in majority of cases. Some SRX's will be faster, some apex's will be faster. One thing is certain, the spex will have a much better ride, and the srx will have way better handling. Personally though, the Apex is extremely fast out of the box and will be neck and neck with the mach and the f10 the entire race. I raced several mach's last year with the ole 700 and took them. Apex is no slotch and I would not say they do not offer enough power. If you are still not satisfied, throw a
kit on there!

Sorry had to help someone on the 4Stroke side for a moment. Not that I'm trying to bash CAT or SKI DOO or POLARIS. I just don't believe that they are Even On The Same Page Yet With YAMAHA. Their 2Strokes are not that good to start with, as the power they keep trying to squeeze out of those twins & triples is Exhausted already.
I'm glad to see Cat out with their 1st real trail performance 4 Stroke, it will keep Yamaha on their toes. As those Cats have some VERY COOL FEATURES
