yea but a clutched and piped mach z will smoke a clutched apex and you cant get any more power out of a apex other than a turbo. I really dont care if it will blow up. Thats what happens with you tinker with things. But i love apex's and attacks i am just saying that there is faster sleds out there. I am also pretty sure that a mach z will beat a apex when they are both box stock. Ps I hate cats

I cannot imagine that much HP as some stated here! Sleds are so fast already. If it all about bragging rights Get the Cat! But from what I have read & experienced ( Had a Polaris ... DOG!) Yamaha is absolutly the best out there! I traded a 02 ProX 440 fan w/ under 500 miles for a 97 Sx700 w/2400 miles & had to redo most of it but it was the best trade I ever did! I hated that damn sled poured money into it & it still sucked! Called Polaris with the problems I was having Did not even want to help! There dealers too! This site & My good luck w/ Yamaha I cannot ever see me with anything else!

i cant tell you how sick i am of reading these ads comparing weights and horsepower numbers, those numbers are just peak numbers you have to look at powerband and torque numbers as well! Also these weights are showing you other sled with out the electric start and reverse where as the fours all come with atleast electric. the skidoo ad really bothers me with the mxz600 they park next to the apex its apples and oranges they compare.

Sounds like you are guessing on this one. Well I saw it real world on Lake Gogebic 3 weeks ago. 2 brand new box stock Machs against a 2007 brand new ATTAK. The ATTAK won every race hands down. I wasn't impressed at all. Yamaha wins with less HP. Why is that? Probably because they are doing a better job getting their power to the ground.

I am not guessing on that even tho it sounded like that. I have seen 2 machs smoke 2 apex GT's but the machs were clutched, picked and piped. It wasnt by a couple sled lengths either.

I guess it depends on what you want. a reliable sled that can be ridden or not? if you dont care that it will blow then arent you going to end up spending the cash in rebuilds on the finicky and peaky 2 stroke when you could sink the same $$ on a turbo and be faster?? all preference. I actually think we will see polaris die in the next few years, and doo and cat arent REALLY as well off as people think. yamaha is just a HUGE company, they do not depend on sleds. if anyone goes it will be sad though, competition makes the breed stronger!!!

Ever since Yamaha came out with the 4 stroke stuff every one sayes how great they are , but you see more & more of them for sales and people switching to other brands so they can go back to a 2 stroke. You see fairly new Rx 1s and other 4 stroke Yammies on ebay all the time . They had great sleds with the SRX & Vipers every one loved them and the dropped them for this 4 stroke stuff,I think they did that so they can use the same motor in the sleds and the bikes . With all of Yamahas technology , to take the cheap way out is an insult. I drove the RX 1 when it first came out and I couldn't wait to get off that thing. I have been a Yamaha fan sense I first rode my friend 69 SL-351 and I think this 4 stroke stuff is nothing but JUNK!!I have switched to SKI Doo and have had Great reliability, I've had 2 Mach Zs and a MX Z 800 and never had any trouble with any of them , the one Mach Z I had had 10000 miles on it and the motor never been apart. Hopefully Yamaha will smarten up and start making great stuff again.

the original rx 1 was pretty decent for a first year first time 4 stroke effort and they are a LOT better now. I also see a lot of.... EVERYTHING on ebay, even leftover 2 stroke sleds lol! on the trails the wide powerband is fantastic. what year mach z and 800 did you have? sounds like they are pre ring-munching days? like back when doo made a GOOD sled, not the unreliable stuff they do today? I really think doo was fantastic until they tried to make a 2 stroke real clean. they need oil to run and dont get enough when running as clean as they do!

Had a 96 & 98 Mach Zs and a 02 MXZ 800. My cousen has a 02 Viper and I would take that over any Yamaha 4 stroke made today.
I OWNED an 05 Mach Z last Saturday on Castle Rock Lake. He had twin pipes, boondockers nitrous, and egt's. My Apex has Holtzman nitrous and a few other toys, but less studs. He got me out of the hole and I passed him everytime. I don't think anyone out there was bashing 4 strokes for being slow that day, I cleaned house. As for stockers, not sure.
P.S. My Apex is 9mph faster in 1000 feet than my SRX, which has a ton more money invested in it. Plus the Apex will go quicker with more studs (I spun like crazy). I still love the SRX, but the Apex rules.

yup, you had doos from when they made a GOOD sled lol! have you ridden any of the efi 4 strokes, or even a vector? my dad has a vector, and stock for stock it will far out ride and is about the same handling. motor is as strong but with so much more tq. actually feels lighter than my viper did with the stock skid. with the mono I actually transfer enough weight to get the same light feeling over the bumps. more throttle means I can get the front end up out of the rough, couldnt with the no action.

I guess you live in a different world out east. Here in the #1 snowmobile state I am seeing the opposite. No Yamaha's for sale and everyone jumping on the 4 stroke wagon, especially the Apex line. I saw so many the last few weeks it has reminded me of when Polaris was invading the market 15+ yrs. ago.

In stock form the ATTAKs are faster than an Apex on snow. Go to the 4 stroke section and there is a long discussion on this topic. Mike Knapp verifies it too. We know you can MAKE the Mach haul, but why the he!! do you have to pour more $$$ into an $11,000 plus sled? In stock form ,IMHO, I think they are quite pathetic. My Viper ran heads up with one on top end on the lake a few weeks ago. My Viper is a strong runner but it still makes no sense.

You are kidding, right? Cheap way out? Yamaha BAR NONE uses the best materials and components of any of the OEM's. It's not the same motor, if you truely knew Yamaha, you'd withdrawl that comment. The new Phazer motor went through 1000's of hours of testing and any knowledgable motor person would agree that what is accomplished with it is amzaing (500 4 stroke with 80HP as much or more then the comparable 2 strokes). Vector motor - snowmobile specific 4 stroke and the new Apex motor is a derivative, but in many ways is different from their bike motor. Their decision was smart and cost effective. What we don't see on the surface is that Yamaha is the most profitable of the OEMS regardless of # of sales or their position in the market. They build and deliver what sells. Not like the others that dump dozens of sled on a dealer that only sells a few to be left with tons of overstock. My 2 cents.

Yamaha will not stop selling sleds. Yamaha is so BIG it's not even funny. They do everything from music, boats, bikes, cars, golf carts, stero stuff, etc, the list goes on and they do it great. They build great sleds and their quality is second to none. I live in Michigan too, and I have seen SO many Yamahas on the trail in the UP, its very cool. People are NOT jumping ship or whatever...far from it. What Yamaha have done to the snowmobile industry is great. Why do you think the new Cats and Pol look like the Yamahas? The other companies would love to make a good four stoke. How fast do you need to go on a trail?
Have fun and enjoy the sport and the snow.
Yamaha is #1.

I don't think the other brands look like Yamaha's. Yamaha's are much better looking. Just my opinion.
Wa, wa, wa. Boo-frickin-hoo.
It must be spring again and the new models are coming out.
Every year there's a bunch of whining and knashing of teeth about
how Yamaha hasn't done as good of a job as (insert brand here)
First of all this is TotallYamaha not TotallyCrybabies.com, what makes people think anyone here wants to hear them whine about the brand. Secondly if you know so much why aren't you on board and designing for the manufactures and being paid for your brilliance. Finally if you don't like em don't buy em. Have fun at

Rant over, I feel better now that I've pulled my underwear out of my *** crack.

Yamaha knows the real money in this sport is the 120hp sleds not the mega hp sleds. they are smart in their plans and direction.
