Law Enforcement
Let's face it there are good and bad in EVERY ocupation just like there are careful, safe sledders and total aholes. All of us know good lawyers and bad lawyers, good doctors and bad ones. I don't thnk it is the point of anyone here to broad brush all law enforcement as bad. I totally respect the law and the need for order, it's just when it swings from concerns for safety to filling the pockets of the town or state I question the ethic. Let's face it who drives 55 on the the highway or 65 if that is the posted limit. We all push it a little and law let's us slide up to 72 in most places. Read back on my post about getting my paperwork checked 14 times in 5 weekend trips. This is actual fact and this kind of BS should be stopped. Sure I push the speed on my APEX when it is safe. Never crashed in over 35 years of riding. Being careful covers a lot of grey area.
Gary ( NOSBOY) you continue to crack me up . I totally enjoy reading all your posts. You have to be the most intense forum poster I have ever had the pleasure to read. Very few people put the amount of passion you do into a topic. Your post on oil is one of the best..
To all safe sledding.......

Well, I'll fes' up. I was a "Johnny Law" for almost nine years. Here's my take...
Not knowing the speed limit means you failed to find out on your own before blasting down a corridor trail at 84 mph. You deserved the ticket, grow up and learn from it. And YES as gay or cliché as this may sound, this experience could actually save your life or better yet, someone else's. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Learn from this.
If you need the speed (and many of us do on here) like posted earlier, hit the lake. There is a time and place for everything, just work on the restraint and maturity that's required in this sport and we'll all be better off for it.
I have introduced my 15 year old son to the sport and also have my 13 year old daughter on my wife's sled. I ride point to (hopefully) protect my family from knuckle heads that have absolutely no COMMON SENSE. Tugg Hill is known for the recklessness of inexperienced riders and many refuse to ride there b/c of it.
Finally, YES there are a lot of COWBOY cops out there, one of the reasons for leaving the profession. I would have been ridiculed non stop at the dept. if I was jumping out from behind bushes pinching people for speeding tickets. Guys like that should be banished to cordoning off beverage spills at their local mall. Selective enforcement requires being visible on/at problem areas. Having an enforcement "presence" is usually very effective, accepted and appreciated by the people you are trying to "protect". What they have done is set up a "us vs. them" environment where we all loose.
For more insight, read the earlier posts about the deaths that have already occurred this year. Those alone put all of this into perspective very quickly and effectively.
Great post! Although I prefer Militant vs. Cowboy.
Cowboys used to be good guys.
Great to hear from a voice of experience. Thanks for sharing.

Well put.
Dog Pile!
I've been following this thread since it started and I havn't changed my opinion. If you didn't know there was a 55mph speed limit in NY for a snowmobile then it is your own fault. I hope you stay in PA.....we don't want you here anyway. Why doesn't a moderator put this worthless thread in the dog pile!!!

stretchSXV said:oh and just a heads up. If you run from the cops and the cop chases and gets hurt it is now a felony in NY. This law went into effect after a cop in an SUV chased a crotch rocket here in CNY. Cop was doing well over the speed limit and hit a tree. He died. The caught the kid on the bike and screwed him. Kid had no clue what happened untill he saw it on the news. I do ride sport bikes so I try to keep up on this stuff.
I don't know if i agree with that, its the officers choice to continue pursuit or not, he should probably have radioed ahead to set up a trap, or returned to that area for some time after to see if the guy comes through again and pull him over (speeding or not) and give him a stern talking to. I mean a SUV chasing a sport bike, really? THINK! (Cowboy/Militant cop perhaps? "i have to get this guy and prove something by doing so" mentallity?) NO OFFENSE to anyone, stating my opinion with respect...
It continues
I can't believe it. I came on here and hit "new posts". Here it is... still... the Energizer bunny of stupid worthless threads! DOG PILE! Hello? Moderators? Anyone out there? LOL

...and here you are posting, again.
I'm not disagreeing about the usefulness of this thread, but as long as you keep posting it'll never die.

I'll bite. I have issues with speed limits. Going down the back dirt road to my house its 35. I drive faster than that. I also drive on my side of the road always. I see people putting along at 35 driving down the middle of the road, weaving to the left side, then back.
Its not about how fast you're going, its about whether you have control or not. You lose control at high speeds. But speed limits are generalities, where generalities do not belong. What does a speed limit mean? Its not safe to travel above that speed? Well why do police regularly go above it then. If its not safe above why is it not absolutely enforced? If it is a gray area, then why "limit"? If its the 85th percentile, you're legislating social preference. If its not safe above speed limit why ok for ambulances, where safety is utmost concern with someone on board.
If you're talking about saving lives, make a mandatory 25 mph speed limit. Or 15mph, because 25 x 2 = 50mph, which would be more than enough to kill. My point is people will die no matter what law you put into place. Will less people die with the tight regulations we have now? Probably, at the cost of freedom. It comes down to freedom vs safety. Considering many have laid down their lives for our freedom it was clear to the founding fathers which they held closer
Let the debate continue!

This is the SRX forum and contains the key word "speed". Owners of an SRX have a keen interest in going fast and getting popped for $1200 is scary. I'm not surprised to see people react to this thread at all. Whether is belongs in the SRX specific forum could be argued, maybe.Madmatt said:I can't believe it. I came on here and hit "new posts". It's not gramma's 1972 Buick Roadmaster forum with the keyword "battletank" or "slow" but if it was, then the thread would be just as much of interest to those who frequent such forums.
What has happened is people have a strong emotional response because most of us have had or know someone who has had a run-in with injustice in the form of a badge. Cops are people, and they make mistakes and have opinions on what constitues speeding and unsafe. They also have been given an assignment by thier boss to patrol for whatever reason.
The best bet to change things is take nos's suggestion and change it at city hall -- Despite the opinion of those who are in the SRX forum and like bozo-low speed limits. I would call that trolling. It's like going on an African-American website and supporting slavery.
SRX = FAST and FAST = RISK. Enjoy... and I bet this rages on at least another 2 days.
SRX it is

Best post yet
Other than that, I would like to know if an 07 phazer jackshaft with the little electric reverse gearbox will fit in an SRX chassis. That's really why I'm here but this post is just aggravating me.
I completely agree with this. A high performance sled forum is not the place for this. Really, why own one. There are people that have no idea what they are doing, have accidents or create them and ruin it for the rest of us. I'll put it this way "There is a time and a place for everything, please take serious note of your skill set and stay within your limits"mustangzrule said:This is the SRX forum and contains the key word "speed". ^^I rank this as the lowest, law wanting, save me from myself garbage ever. Id rather kiss/hug a tree at 90mph than have a another father figure scolding me on how I should act. Ignorance is embracing any law in hopes itll save your weak pathetic life. Where have all the men gone from the world??

I agree 100% and was one of the guys that couldn't ride for 3 days until the kid was caught b/c the cops were on a man hunt for a sport bike rider. I took a 30 min ride and was stopped 3 times during the ride. I was just letting the people who come to this state to be carefull and find out about all the stupid BS laws here

Wtf????
I don't mean any disrespect, but this is one of the dumbest things I have ever read on a forum(isn't even in the same category as nosboy's posts though!). This sub-forum is about SRX's and Viper's.....hence the little description that says "post about you power-valved monster". It doesn't say post about the experiences you have while snowmobiling......"The TY Lounge" is the place for this type of stuff.
I have no problem with this thread or where it is located....some of the people in it, yes, but that's neither here nor there. I too am guilty of posting stuff that doesn't belong in this forum, obviously for the exposure that this forum gets over the rest of the site. I don't care if it is here, but it sure as hell doesn't belong here!

amen !!!!!
I suppose everyone has their right to their own opinion... Weather they respect the police or not... I suppose I have a right to disrespect someone who disrespects me and YOU could STILL THINK that I am wrong... I respect that ( not much, but I'll respect it just for the sake of saying that I do...) IN CHICAGO,, ( hear CHICAGO,, if you will) the POLICE BREAK LAWS just for the sake of "they don't want to wait for the green light" or NO TURN ON RED doesn't apply to them.. Somehow,,, they are immuned to the local traffic laws.. they talk on cell phones ( which is ILLEGAL in CHICAGO) and go the wrong way down one way streets ( BECAUSE THEY think they CAN).. They get away with it because no one complains... Come to Chicago and see for yourself.. CONSISTENTLY seen NOT WEARING A SEATBELT among other things... STICK UP FOR THEM ALL YOU WANT.. WRONG IS WRONG in MY OPINION!!!! If they setup stings to bust guys who pick up prostitutes,,, dress up and pretend to be prostitutes just to ENTRAP guys... Setup up roadblocks to give sobriety tests AND setup up speed traps to CATCH snowmobilers...... they SUCK and they GET WHAT THEY GOT COMING!!!!!!

What's wrong with that? Either way, no matter how they catch you, you are still breaking the law<<<WRONG is WRONG in my opinion too!
It is obviously way worse in Chicago, compared to where I live. I agree they shouldn't be doing stupid things for no reason, but driving done a one-way street the wrong way is ok in my opinion, if it's for a good reason of course. Going through a red or turning on a red when you shouldn't is dumb, and I don't think they should do that sort of stupid stuff. I will admit though, if I was a cop, I would most likely do some of those things!
