Also i am not out there to kill your kids in the corners but a single file sled going through the corners at tug hill will never connect with another sled if the rider can handle his machine.... period
Maybe the bars along the trail can take some of there beer money and help the state put up some speed limit signs

I like the way you think nosboy! But realisticly who is going to fart around for weeks and hire an attorney to do such things? I think the cops and such realize this as well and figure people are just going to pay up instead of take time out of thier busy schedule to screw around, it is an EXCELLANT idea though (one i am going to keep in the back of my mind!)
Theres laws that the AREA ( like POSTING LIMITS) must obey by.. Please call you local BAR ASSOCIATION and they give FREE ADVICE!!!!romig said:well i bet you all think iam a cocky spoiled young kid well your wrong i just wish if the cops are going to sit in the bushes along a 5 mile straight trail to nail people then they need to make people aware of the LAW as i said earlier i am from pa and this was the first time there i had no idea there was a limit as there isnt in pa. There isnt one sign along any of the trails in tug hill that state a speed limit. Then ontop of that when i told the cop this was the first time there and had no idea he said well write a note to the judge with your ticket and if he's in a good mood he will let you off that told me it is all about the money. And ALWAGG I am soory you need to bash me this way but my sled is stock most silencers rob power I would rather make my sled handle like its on rails then wake the neighbors
ONE GUY WON'T,,, but a HUNDRED WILL!!! i wish GORKON would jump in on this one... You PITCH A BITCH with some chain letterOZ_872 said:I like the way you think nosboy! Hay romig . Let me give you a hypothetical situation . Now it was your first time to Tug Hill so you don't know the trails and you go down an unfamiliar trail and come up on a short quick hill . On the other side of the hill is a broken down snowmobile with a couple people trying to get it off to the side of the trail so they can fix it . Now your not totaly aware of your suroundings and you are at you 84 MPH . How would you feel if you hit someone or lost it and hit a tree . Would that be totaly the other riders fault ? Or would you accept some or all of the blame ? This is what it is all about , the safty of all .

I wish you were right and "this is what it is all about" was REALLY what it was all about... These PIG POLITICIANS,, weather they be police captains OR DNR rangers, have MOSTLY ONE THING IN COMMON.... They look for infracions to make THEIR REVENUES.... ASK a COP and he will probably tell you the TRUTH!!!! They do it in the name of SAFETY,,,but,, didn't your father ever BEAT YOU and tell you that it would HURT HIM more than it hurt you????? MY BUTT STILL has marks on it from THAT ONE!!!!!SneekySnake said:Hay romig . Let me give you a hypothetical situation . I got a 105 mph in a 25mph zone on the canal. This was a 5 mile straight. The ticket was $115 total. I paid it and had no problems with the cop giving it to me. I knew I was in the wrong. I did the crime and paid the fine. My biggest complaint is just b/c you don't know the laws doesn't mean your exempt. Trust me I have many issues with cops but I have also had many close calls on Tug Hill with weekend warriors ripping over blind hills around corners out of control and going way to fast.

True Tug Hill Story
This actually happened:
It was a Sunday afternoon two years ago. I just left the Tug Hill Inn with a buddy from Ontario and my 18 year old nephew. We did not drink just had lunch. We were on the Salmon River Road headed toward Redfield just approaching the Culpepper Road. I had a feeling that Johnny Law would be at the intersection and I was right. We approached at 45 mph, sure enough standing in the middle of the road was an officer with radar gun in hand. We were stoppend and had to dig out the paper work. While we were doing that we heard some sledders approaching from the Cullpepper Road toward Salmon River Road. There were 3 officers. One with the radar gun and 2 on sleds. As the riders approached the officer with the radar gun pointed it and said yup 68 mph. The riders must have saw him made a quick U turn and sped away. They never got closer than about 75 yards. When they turned around, 2 of the officer jumped on their sleds and sped away after them. My buddy and I looked on in amazement. We never thought that officers would chase sledders like that. We felt a bit uneasy to say the least. We waited about 5 minutes then proceeded toward the same direction the officers went after the sledders. About 3 miles up the Culpepper we came upon a horrible crash. One of the sledders in his escape attempt launched the sled off one of the rolling hills and put the sled into the trees. He was lying on the ground with pieces of sled scattered all over. As we slowed down the officer waved us to go on. About 2 miles down the road we ran into the second officer on his way back. Must be the first rider lost him. I often wonder if the first sledder has sense enough to sue the town for the illegal chase. There could be lots of reaons why they turned around, some legit, some not. In my opinion doing 68 in a 55 is not reason enought to have chased them down. I know some are going to jump all over this story, but the fact remains that chasing sledders down like that should not be allowed.

I'm NOT SAYING that speeding is right.....SPeeding is Illegal.. Period.... But,, so is a LOT OF STUFF the police do to try and catch you.. Everyone has rights,,, weather you're breaking the laws or not breaking anything..... Cops have rights too,,, it just seems that THEY (the cops) are some of the BIGGEST LAW BREAKERS of them all... You have to protect yourself from THEM!!!! Thats my point!!! I have a totally stock sled.. I TRY and stay within the boundries and OBEY local laws... I have a RACECAR ( 1973 Challenger ) that can raise the front wheels off the ground.. It is SETUP (hence the word SETUP) for DRAGRACING!!! I DO NOT drive this vehicle on CITY STREETS... I've been there and BROKE the laws... Have the SCARS to prove it ( and the RAP SHEETS TOO). Proud of SOME of the stuff I did,,, not proud of others... My BEST ADVICE IS,,,,,,, STAY BETWEEN THE LINES and life will be a LOT easier... Gary Oles nosboy

Romig, sorry I came across too strong, I was also wrong in prejudging you about the pipes and silencers. I have just had way to many close calls with excessive speeders either nearly hitting me head on in the corners or rearending my wife after cresting hills. This is why we now like to boondock everychance we can on the ungroomed trails. We specifically try to avoid the conjested areas. I personally know too many people who have been in accidents from excessive speed. Drive in control at a reasonable speed, You were guilty for breaking the law, just admit it and move on. Again I admit I was incorrect in prejudging you, respect Al

nosboy said:If they CHASE YOU DOWN and they are going,,,lets say,,, 25-30 MPH FASTER than the "posted" speed limit... they themselves force YOU into a LIFE THREATENING situation (that is ILLEGAL for them to do) if you decide to get "in FEAR for your LIFE" and decide to let them chase after you,,, because you are UNSURE that they are ACTUALLY REAL LAW ENFORCEMENT and not some "IMPERSONATOR",,, you could REALLY work up a CASE against THEM and they will have NO CHOICE but to GIVE YOU your bail/bond money back and HOPE TO GOD that you don't file SUIT against them for a DOZEN infractions... !!!
This sounds similar to the defense some freekin' gang bangin' crack dealer would use and unfortunately is where we're headed. Too dangerous to chase crooks so let's just let 'em go... nice!
Now one could argue that since your little hamlet doesn't trust you with handguns, they put you in the position of not being able to defend yourself against impersonators. But it's been my experience growing up in the ghetto of Detroit that when Johnny law asks you to stop, if you're innocent you stop. If you're not and decide to run, you've made the choice of endangering you and others not the cop and it usually ends up with larger fines/jail time and a well deserved whoopa$$.
Perhaps some here don't realize that us Mr. Safety types were once scofflaws. I've had my fair share of run-ins with law enforcement (lost my license for three years due to street racing) but most LEOs I've run across just want to go home to thier families at the end of the day.
Becoming a father also changes your outlook. If selling all my hot rods would ensure the safety of my son, I'd do it without hesitation. Of course it doesn't work that way and would make for a boring life but I'd just spend more time hunting and fishing. I would also be missing an opportunity to teach him responsible use of such things.
My reaction to pedestrians whether on a trail or on the street is to slow down and expect one or more to just jump into my path. If I don't slow down, I'm driving above the safe speed required to maintain control under those conditions. Of course being hit would suck more than hitting someone, but who wants to kill someone? This thinking has kept me alive (especially on my road bike) and out of jail for manslaughter.
I'm not for more laws but I'll bet everyone on this site could account an experience of sledders they saw that had no regard for the safety of others.
If I had a dime for every time I was stopped on the side of a trail and had sleds wizzing by at 60+ mph within 5 feet of me I'd be a rich man. In fact, some will actually go WOT just to show how cool they are. You can safely assume if it was my kid you killed I'd be going to jail and your family would be attending your funeral.
Again, perhaps I'm wrong, but the original poster sure sounded like he didn't give a rat's behind about others. Without knowing the conditions in which he was cited, I won't judge who was right and who was wrong and perhaps his disgust is justified. But on the surface, it sounds more like sour grapes.
One thing is for sure, ignorance of the law is no excuse. I assume he knew enough to find out what's required in the way of trail permits (since he wasn't cited for not having any) but didn't take the time to find out what other laws were on the books.
Finally, where I part company with some of my Mr. Safety buddies is the practice of zero tolerance for alcohol. I'm a big boy and don't agree that if I drink a beer with lunch I'm going to kill someone. One beer in my belly doesn't equate to a belly full of courage. I've never had a problem knowing when to say when and would rather ride than sit in a bar all day and drink but I also enjoy a barley pop with my burger now and again. I also don't hesitate reminding others I'm with to think before ordering "just one more".
IMO - zero tolerance laws are just an excuse to avoid thinking for one's self.
Okay, I'm done. Please be safe.

Thanks Al and I too apologize to Romig for perhaps jumping to conclusions.
But when it comes to the safety of my riding buddies, my family and myself, there ain't no wiggle room.
Now, what did I do with my Danny Terio dancin' shoes?

I think theres a little difference from a guy,, lets say,, doing 45 in a speed limit 25 zone... The zone was setup in the first place to generate revenue for the local LE.... There are hospitals and psycologists and rehab centers and doctors and nurses and social workers and FUNERAL HOMES that NEED to make a living off of those "crack Dealers" ,.... The POLICE DEPARTMENT buys NEW SQUAD CARS with the money that they generate from FORFEITURES AND SEIZURES!!!! I am ABSOLUTELY 100% SURE that they DO NOT want CRACK and other street drugs to GO AWAY... THATS HOW they make their living... It's SAD to see your or my little 17 year old son with a needle hanging out of his arm and NOONE is too good to be immuned from that,,, but,, it happens to the best of them... There is a DRAG RACER named Chris Karamesines.. I personally know his son,, Chris Jr... ALL the money or the FAME or the notariety in the world couldn't have saved Jr..... If a guy decides to BOLT from getting pulled over and TRIES to outrun the COPS,,, WELL,,, like the 17 year old with the needle hanging out of his arm,,, he JUST MADE A BAD DECISION.... Did you ever wake up next to your wife and look at her sleeping and THOUGHT : wow, did I make a BAD DECISION or what?????? EVERYONE makes BAD DECISIONS..... SOme more than others!!!! Some NEVER LEARN...
