Good luck trying to convince the masses, its sad how they believe laws are needed to keep them safe from themselves, we even educate them but still it prevails.
Grow up people((wait we are grown ups!!!)), we really dont need government regulating us in any capacity. Now, go on, shoe, get outta the box ((THINK))!!!

Wow stretch, that corner looked ICEY!!!, I don't think anyone in those vids was at fault (Although in the first one I thought they went wide on purpose but after seeing the second one it was probably the ice) I think clubs need to pay attention to stuff like that and post the proper warning signs so riders know to slow down and use extra caution

ok now this has been brought up a few times now about coming over the top of a hill and there is some body broken on the other side, if thats the case then they should have regard for the people that are not broke, and walk to the top of the crest to warn other drivers of there presents or one of there group, that would be the safe way! and moveing the sled to the side of the trail were on coming people can see you so there aware of you! puting limits on things doesnt solve the problem! you must be aware of your surroundings and if you have a problem you must!! make others aware of the change in surroundings!! if this was a car and you were on a road would you let your kids play in the road while you are working on lets say a flat tire? i think not!!!!! when you are driving on a trail, you are on a snowmoble road and have to respect that, if you teach your kids correctly they will know to respect this, if not its just like if they run across the middle of the street and get hit by a car! its your fault for not teaching them its against the law to jay walk and very un safe, its not the cars or drivers fault no matter what the speed. could of, should of, would of, are all guesses, the fact is the cause, kid was not being safe and was never tought how! people if we would all just take resposibilty for our own saftey and teach our kids we wouldnt need all these bogus laws! same goes for adults that were never tought because of long aprin strings that sheild not teach! speed kills is the stupidist statement ever, lack of abilty and knowledge is what kills! ok im done know seems to have fallin on deaf ears!

nosboy said:I think theres a little difference from a guy,, lets say,, doing 45 in a speed limit 25 zone... The zone was setup in the first place to generate revenue for the local LE.... There are hospitals and psycologists and rehab centers and doctors and nurses and social workers and FUNERAL HOMES that NEED to make a living off of those "crack Dealers" ,.... The POLICE DEPARTMENT buys NEW SQUAD CARS with the money that they generate from FORFEITURES AND SEIZURES!!!! I am ABSOLUTELY 100% SURE that they DO NOT want CRACK and other street drugs to GO AWAY... THATS HOW they make their living... It's SAD to see your or my little 17 year old son with a needle hanging out of his arm and NOONE is too good to be immuned from that,,, but,, it happens to the best of them... There is a DRAG RACER named Chris Karamesines.. I personally know his son,, Chris Jr... ALL the money or the FAME or the notariety in the world couldn't have saved Jr..... If a guy decides to BOLT from getting pulled over and TRIES to outrun the COPS,,, WELL,,, like the 17 year old with the needle hanging out of his arm,,, he JUST MADE A BAD DECISION.... Did you ever wake up next to your wife and look at her sleeping and THOUGHT : wow, did I make a BAD DECISION or what?????? EVERYONE makes BAD DECISIONS..... SOme more than others!!!! Some NEVER LEARN...
We all make bad decisions of one degree or another but when they affect the welfare of others (i.e. endangering the lives of bystanders and the cops chasing your sorry A$$) that's when you've crossed the line. I was raised to respect law enforcement not run from it.
I'm sorry to hear about the Greek's kid but I don't agree that no one is immuned. I plan to be involved in every aspect of my son's life just like my parents were and plan on embaressing him as much as my parents did being so involved.
...and the posted 25 mph speed limit on my street is to ensure the safety of the residents not to generate revenue.
Sometimes Gary you need to just get out of the city and see how others live. I think that town is clouding your brain. We left the ghetto 20 years ago when Coleman A. Young told all us white folk to get out the city... we took our money with us and look how it stands now.

[QUOTE=! speed kills is the stupidist statement ever,
Actually, it's the sudden stop that kills.

I think the big thing in rhinelander is Crystal Meth and not Heroin anymore... It really doesn't matter how far your parents have their nose up the kids AssEs, the kids will STILL be kids!!! As far as WHO they hang around,,, my parents BEAT THE HELL out of me and I STILL hung around with the "bad boys" and grew up hanging with them... Partying our AsSeS off!!!! There isn't MUCH of a difference when the kid catches a case drinking and driving or STRUNG OUT pulling a FELONY!!! A DRUG IS A DRUG IS A DRUG!!! I have a SIX FIGURE JOB because I live where I do... The area in which I live in is BIGTIME UNIONS!!!! They pay DECENT WAGES for a decent days work... What happened in DETROIT you can blame NISSAN and TOYOTA and HONDA for their demise!!!! It's called WHITE FLIGHT here in Chicago and neighborhoods were ABANDONED by white peeples ( I like the peeples spelling better than peoples)!! I've been almost around the WORLD a few times already and I see how the other half lives... If you think people are immuned to drugs and alcohol and stupid decisions,,, well,,, I'm sorry for you!!!! You are going to have a BIG SHOCK!!!! If you think " my kids not going to grow up like that" ,,, I could show you DOZENS of mothers and fathers that said the same thing!!!! Just because we don't agree on some stuff,, doesnt mean either of us are WRONG,,, it just means that SOME OF US haven't experienced it YET!!!!

I thought the subject was about speeding on the trail and getting a ticket. Where does drug use get into the picture? Al
I was raised to respect people who respect me... Chicago cops have VERY LITTLE RESPECT for the RULES and the LAWS around here.. ( most of them).. They have also very little respect for the people who pay their salaries...... I've lost around 4 or 5 mini bikes or motor bikes to the CPD... They take them home to THEIR KIDS and you occasionally catch their kid riding it and have to beat the kid up to get it back again... That was growing up in Chicago.... The cop that originally took the mini bike and gave it to his kid,,, ( the kid I CAUGHT riding it) eventually came into MY GARAGE,, threw me around for beating up HIS KID,,,and TOOK the mini bike BACK and I never saw it again.... Yeah,, I'm going to respect HIM!!!!!!
sorry,, trying to paint a picture al..alswagg said:I thought the subject was about speeding on the trail and getting a ticket. Where does drug use get into the picture? Al

Sadly not to long after these videos were taken there was a death on this corner. So please DON'T RIDE ABOVE your abilities and ride safe if you don't know the area

oh and just a heads up. If you run from the cops and the cop chases and gets hurt it is now a felony in NY. This law went into effect after a cop in an SUV chased a crotch rocket here in CNY. Cop was doing well over the speed limit and hit a tree. He died. The caught the kid on the bike and screwed him. Kid had no clue what happened untill he saw it on the news. I do ride sport bikes so I try to keep up on this stuff.

I would cry if the ticket was really $1200, but not $120. There is such a thing as reasonable. Maybe I missed it somewhere in the 11 pages, but I hope the 1200 was a mis-type.

Although we have similar backgrounds which probably mirror one another more than you appear to know, we obviously came away from those experiences with opinions that couldn't be more opposite.
The town I grew up in was also a big union town and like you say, perhaps some just haven't experienced it yet so I hope your's doesn't end up the same way.
I can't relay the same kind of angst towards the law growing up as you have but perhaps it was due to some of my buds having cops as fathers. They were about the only ones left due to residency requirements back then. We (mom and us) just couldn't afford to move until much later in the white flight persession.
Anyhow, it's always a pleasure exchanging pleasentries with you Gary and believe it or not, I have some very good friends that share a lot of your stated views. They're just as wrong as you are and I have just as hard a time convincing them of it too ;>)
Let's wrap it up by saying that getting along means being courtious both at the keyboard and on the trail.

The vids from stretch SXV are text book reasons why I don't ride without studs. One stab of the brake and those sleds would have turned right now. They didn't know it was icy until they were at the apex and then it was too late to slow down with a studless track.
Or perhaps they were studded and just lazy.
I'm not sure but one of netfrog's vids also looked like studs may have helped. Good thing a car wasn't traveling down that road at the same time.
With all my gum flapping, I'm still just as guilty as the next guy for letting it all hang out when possible (just not everytime it's possible like I used to), but I/we always check up in heavy traffic and just generally try to be as courtious as possible.
It's one of the reasons I haven't gone up on a weekend in the past few years. Just too much traffic.
Leaving next Monday for a weeks worth of triple cylinder, liquid cooled excitement!
I hope for you and your family's sake that I AM WRONG!!!! The world would be such a most peaceful place!!!!..... On the other hand,,, WAR stimulates the economy!!!!! Peace........ Common Sense
Wow....someone touched a nerve!
Well, I'll fes' up. I was a "Johnny Law" for almost nine years. Here's my take...
Not knowing the speed limit means you failed to find out on your own before blasting down a corridor trail at 84 mph. You deserved the ticket, grow up and learn from it. And YES as gay or cliché as this may sound, this experience could actually save your life or better yet, someone else's. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Learn from this.
If you need the speed (and many of us do on here) like posted earlier, hit the lake. There is a time and place for everything, just work on the restraint and maturity that's required in this sport and we'll all be better off for it.
I have introduced my 15 year old son to the sport and also have my 13 year old daughter on my wife's sled. I ride point to (hopefully) protect my family from knuckle heads that have absolutely no COMMON SENSE. Tugg Hill is known for the recklessness of inexperienced riders and many refuse to ride there b/c of it.
Finally, YES there are a lot of COWBOY cops out there, one of the reasons for leaving the profession. I would have been ridiculed non stop at the dept. if I was jumping out from behind bushes pinching people for speeding tickets. Guys like that should be banished to cordoning off beverage spills at their local mall. Selective enforcement requires being visible on/at problem areas. Having an enforcement "presence" is usually very effective, accepted and appreciated by the people you are trying to "protect". What they have done is set up a "us vs. them" environment where we all loose.
For more insight, read the earlier posts about the deaths that have already occurred this year. Those alone put all of this into perspective very quickly and effectively.
