Too cold to do any stripping of parts or cleaning. Kinda hurry up and wait now for nice weather. Gave me a chance to get all my sandblasting and Powder coat stuff set up. Even built a shock compression tool out of some scrap angel iron and welded it up. Turned out pretty good. I'll get some pic's up when painted.

So got a chance to play around a bit today. Here are some pic's of my "poor mans" work shop. Got the HF sandblast cabinet working good with dust collection system, and made a new pickup tube per google mods! Love google and youtube. Also got the powder coat station set up with back woods oven and a small toaster oven. Small but all i need for sled parts. Powder coated my spring compression tool and threw some yamaha stickers on it, turned out pretty good just no dogging the welds. Still learning and it was free, all metal was scrap angle iron laying around. Also tried some white powder today, was worried about it browning but it came out great. Only thing it needed was two coats and two bakes??? Not sure why first did not totally cover but in the end it looks good. Elizabeth wants white hood and belly screens to set off white in hood wrap. Still waiting for warmer weather to start really cleaning and stripping parts.

Got some more done over last couple days, got all the parts stripped and ready for sandblasting. I sandblasted all the stuff needing to be white and finished up the white powdercoat. Im really happy how that turned out, a nice and glossy bright white. Then i started into some of the smaller skid stuff that will fit into my toaster oven with the matte black. The sandblaster with pick up tube mod is really working great. Cleans up the parts nice and cuts a good profile for the powdercoat to cling to.

How are you protecting the area you do not want powder coating on? Tape? And do you leave it on then remove it after baking? Parts look great by the way.

I use regular tinfoil. It's easy to shape, fill in holes you don't want Powder to get into. Like zirk threads. The ends of transfer rods ect. Then I remove them before baking. Done both ways but the foil will bake into Powder if left in to cook. Also I use it to cover the shafts on the spindles cause it stays put when spraying then just slides off before baking. They do make silicone plugs for this as well as high temp tape but this works well for me.

Good tip, thanks. I have not done any powder coating. But was wondering how to prevent the coating from getting where you dont want it. I have been thinking about picking up the Eastwood kit.

I just have the harbor freight kit and love it. I really like their paint also. The matte black and white is from them. Very easy to cook and is very durable. I have two seasons of riding on my viper with HF Powder and it still looks new. I bake my parts in a toaster oven and what don't fit in there goes in my home made oven out of 2x4 return vent and a hot plate. I control the temp with a PID controller. Works for what I need!

Got the rest of the matte black done, Turned out really nice. Even got to put my welder to work. Welded up some small cracks on W - Arm as that seems to be a routine maintenance now. Pulled out the backwoods rail and trailing arm cooker, its always an adventure but it works! Hoping to try some of the purple stuff yet this weekend. Not long now and on to putting this sled back together.

Looking good. I like your tall oven, good idea. How did you remove the paint / coating on the raidius rods? I was told it dose not come off very easily.

I use a stripper called kleen strip, I get it from home depot. It bubbles that stuff off like nothing and just wipe away! That is some tuff stuff too. Tried sanding, wire wheel and sand blasting with no luck but this stuff takes it right off. Only thing I found it won't strip is the skid but that sand blasts off easy.
