Yessuh! Everytime I see this sled I stop and wonder what would have happened if they had started with their 4stroke line AND kept developing the 2strokes. What a shame.

I'd be willing sell the farm for one of those snox 800 mods. someday I'll build a replica. rack steering with rider forward column, nytro rtx skid, ohlin piggybacks, lightweight hood/seat/tunnel/trailing arms. I'd go with a redhead 800 single pipe. I can see it all now. Everything yamaha should have done. lol IMO of course

...oh ya, regarding the original topic, never herd of a factory 800 SRX, but I wouldn't put it past yamaha. They've had a habbit of being sneaky over the years.

its a good thing i dont own this sled lol id be spanking the competitio=n with old iron not only on the smooth stuff but in the bumps

I rode with a guy in Mich. Who has a factory 800 SRX motor in his black viper. It was one of the brand new, never used snow cross motors in a viper. It hauled ***

Yeah I know a guy name Jamie in Ontario. Do you know a guy name Jacques in Quebec?

I buy parts at work from a guy named Jacques in Quebec. He is even French Canadian. ;)!

This is not about Yamaha, :offtopic: but back in the late 70's Arctic Cat built a handful of sleds for there cross country teams (and some private teams could buy them) El Tigre with two motorcycle shocks in the back of the skid. One on each side. I know this for a fact because I built an engine for one of these (Larry Hunters sled).

Point is, manufatures do make some one offs.

Race teams make one offs also. Mfg send parts and cash to their race teams.
Aaen, Bender, Hauck, all raced for factory yamaha. All the cool one offs sleds they made are not Factory Yamaha race sleds. They are team sleds backed by yamaha. This 800 sounds like the same deal to me.

the following is a converstion i had with Bill , a while back , just to get the facts straight as Bethviper said he had a bunch of misc, parts .

Mine in my trail srx with bender bb trail pipes made 169hp @ 8600 with 12 to 1 heads, bender pipes
What sled is it going in and what are you going to use it for? All around use or racing??? I would want to put the engine together as I will fit the heads, I would prefer you using srx heads to alleviate the cooling issues and if you're using an sxr chassis you will need to change the heat exchangers and the sled determines which pipes you will need. You shouldn't need any extra parts, I have 3 of these running myself, and 4 I sold out in the field and NEVER blew anything except te first race sled went
my sled it would run 123 to 127 in a typical lake race, 2000ft on ice ran 131.57, stock track, stock height, trail studs,

He obviously new what he was doing !!!!!!!!!!!

Well the Myth is busted

Well I talked to Bill the other day he said if he was bored he would give me some pics for verifacation.

These are not aftermarket parts built by a high perf company, this is not an urban legend, and the man from nantucket didn't get one.

Note in pics 600, 700, and 800 cc cylinders, 700 and 800 jugs beside each other, the parts are marked and it is very clear that the 800 jugs are as cast with factory markings. You can see the Viper style head with cast 74mm pockets.

Myth solved

More

couple more, note in piston pics the 8DN makings on the smaller piston, as well the factory coatings and material, not castings, not wiesco's.

Thanks for the 800 information Bill

wow thats pretty cool. would love to take a spin on a factory 800 yami does have a lot of tricks up thier sleeve. i still wonder why they never made it to consumer production. there was quite a few offerings in the 800cc category from other companys. im suprised yamaha didnt put thier 2 cents in this market as well if they already had the motor wouldnt of ben hard.

mabey it just tickled them pink that their 700s could do the job. thats about the only reason i can think of myself. but and 800 wouldof just been plain downright nasty

They are nasty, only rode my 800 once and it is a fast motha.I can only imagine what the factory sleds ran like.

I think Yamaha would have a huge market if they started producing an 800 crate motor to sell to the public. Lets say the price tag was $2,000 and you buy your own pipes.
