.............and supposedly Cat is going to stop using Suzuki as their engine supplier in the near future.
Suzuki engines are not their problem. It's the engineers at Cat. Suzuki builds great engines if it is left up to them. Add Cat engineers, Cat weight restrictions and abunch of other shtuff and ya get a disposible sled. The last Cat I owned was a 79 Eltigre 5000 F/A. But that was back when Cat knew how to make something that would last and not break down.

Did Yamaha ever have a recall on the best and fastest sled ever made according to you guys, the SRX? I think I remember a lot of junk cranks when they first came out. I can tell you one thing I bought a 2002 SRX last year because I heard how great they are and I was not impressed at all. I'm glad I sold it. It rode like a tank, the suspesnion was worse than my 96 Phazer, and it really wasn't that fast. It was ok, I could beat other 700s except for the 03 F7s. Mach Z 800s F7s and XCR 800s would walk right away from me. I did run a couple other Srx's and they all ran about the same. One was a little faster with more compression and Mach Z carbs. Now I'm back to a 03 F7 with 600 miles on it. We just need some snow so I cam make the SRX's run a hide.
What did you check or do to this SRX after you bought it.

And how did that same sled do against the F7s when they came out? The F7s have been winning the 700 800 and 1000 class since they came out.

NUFF SAID !!!!!!

Yes and No on this one. Yes the 2003's were fast in the right hands which wasn't hard to do once you did the airbox,chip/ timing key mods and clutching to them. Bone stock out of the crate I could beat any 2003 F7 I ran across with my Viper which is stock except for the track and Heavy hitter clutching. With those mods mentioned on a 2003 F7 they were VERY fast....a sleeping giant. Then Cat went to the diamond drive the very next year and those F7's were not what the 2003's were. I know a fella that has two 2003's that are dialed and he set many records in speed runs around here. I never ran him but I would most likey have my hands full. He has burned down several times though. He mentioned to me that one time he was just cruising about 50 mph across a lake with his little boy riding with and it popped for no apparent reason.

Being I started this: NUFF SAID!!

well that is very interesting facts to know.SRX had the fastest speeds out of the box from factory in them years. The F7 out of the box wasn't that quick then unless guys upgraded it..Now the truth comes out and it is good for all to know this...and as for blowing motors...well the SRX really didn't need to worry about that as other brands did..COOL! Info..

thats what you get when you put somebody elses motor and clutch in a chasis and call it your own never understood that don'y get me wrong zooks some of the best engines out there but build your own sh!t

 I suppose we could debate that all day.

I have 2 stock Vipers and a stock 700 Kitty Cat. The Vipers won't beat it. An SRX might be a different story. Vipers are more fun in the corners though...gotta ride the Cat like a dirtbike in the corners with your *** off the seat while on one ski. I'm getting too old for that crap. Can't get the fiancee' away from the Vipers. She loves the cornering and low CG. She has no interest in anything newer and won't take my Cat out anymore! I enjoy Vipers also and have been enjoying the tinkering and getting to know how they work. Love the sound of a 2-stroke triple.

Not sure what year your Vipers are or the Cat (assuming it's an F7) but they made a bucket load of the 2002 Vipers. It was the #1 selling model sled that year. That being said there were some exceptional running Vipers, some decent and some were underachievers. My father and I were lucky to get a couple strong runners his being stronger than mine. I have some friends that own Vipers and one in particular I can literally walk away from like his has 100cc's or so less than I do. Go figure. That's why I made a point that "the F7's I ran across" when I compared my sled to them stock.
