Worst Winter Ever

I think they are right this time, trying to get a video uploaded for yas...just waiting for the gopro to charge up. snowin like MAD right now!

That why I've not purchased trail this year. Since I didn't ride the last two years. Limited trails were sled wreckers and not worthy of using them. It never built a base around where I sled around the Belleville area and PEC. Insurance also wasted money to sit. I don't need anything to go up/down my road way or driveway. LOL

If and when there is a solid base and trail system open then I will consider it. But sometimes by hte time all that is bought and you go out the weather has changed and its turned to slop, slush, water and mud. I am not paying that kind of money for one ride or even two.

You'all have to smarten up as well. Wait until the winter has shown its true colours (White) before setting out for the permits. They expire at the end of season (no longer a years permit so you can't use it at the end the year, Dec preceeding the next winter).

Ottawa you say. Yeah half a days drive, trailering increasing you gas consumption big time and you have to stay at least one night which is not really worth while if you've got that long of a drive back home. Too expensive already as said this sport. The local trails need to be open or those very close. There was a time I'd just hop on my sled and onto the trails, gone for along run and sled back worn out with my arse hunging. Inside I'd relax with a cool one survey the sled outside and potter about and have dinner inside relax. But spending all that time loading up and unloading changing outside after hauling the sleds to say the Haliburton Forest and Wildlife for the day. Then heading home is tough. Maybe you young guys can do it still but I know after a good ride. I could drop off asleep in a warm truck on the road.
 
It definatly is too much money, but riding my quad is nothing like the enjoyment I get riding my sled. As far as the trail permit goes I'll decide whether to buy one or not once we get a enough snow to actually ride without wrecking my sled.

I was just out for about 100kms. Knocking down 3 foot drifts in places and bare roads in others from the winds.
All the roads in town are covered with pack snow, so getting out for testing was even a nice ride . My front yard has a good 10-12" on it.
Looks like I'm takin out the studs though. Track is to tight now and they still grazed the exchanger at 140k when I let off the gas suddenly. That sucks.

must be nice, sun is out in full force right now but still very windy. hopefully theres no damage to the exchanger. I don't think it will be long before the trails open back up if you guys got that much snow up there. where abouts on Georgian bay are ya?

How long of a stud are you using, must be nice to have snow to ride on lol

Once we're close or at Feb. that the last real month before thing normally start warming up. Without a really thick base of well packed deep snow. It can go fast. Right now there is nothing anywhere.

I picked up an ATV myself (used) this fall and do some riding and was out this weekend. Not the same I agreed as sledding on prime deep groomed trails and solid frozen lake crossings. But I can at least go out for some sort of ride except when/if we get a lot of deep snow. I don't see it happening again this year. I also won't be buying insurance or a pass for a one weekend opportunity. Its not worth it that late in the season.
 
The OFSC map is all RED from North Bay and south. Even Bancroft further east is read country. I was amazed the there was a lot of limited trails showing online when we had the warm week. I don't know what the reporters were smoking but not snow and dirt is not limited. I have seen some trails that were called limited in Haliburton years ago and they are really rough with lots of dirt patches, water ponds on trails to down a machine.

I've had my buddy's from st cathrines drive up once already this year, stayed a long weekend. And he is planing on coming up for a week in February.
He finds it worth the money. He has a 97 sx700 so he can get the cheaper trail pass and only spent 1100 on his sled a few years back. Spent 500 on a trailer.
For the enjoyment we get out of it it's worth it. But if u are not willing to do that I would sell the sled :winterrul :sled1:

Woke to it snowing like a biatch again here in Owen Sound.
My studs are 1.5. Previous owner screw up. I was hoping to get away with it, but there's no chance.
I've decided to cut them all down with the 4 1/2 angle grinder. I just need to slip up to Crappy Tire for some fine metal wheels. Think I'll need a 10 pack minimum. Those thin blades dont last long.
I see another inch since my wee nap.

I have thought about selling it. Where are the two of you sledding. Coming from St. Catherines is a good drive to the GTA but from there where are you going. Grass sledding. Nah, not interested in that.

I have a trailer etc, alway had a trailer or two.

Oh my God, so I take it you're in Ottawa area then. Thats one heck of a drive trailering. A lot of gas to tow that far. I he's staying with you then that save the expense of a Motel or what will allow a trailer sitting all weekend. That takes about a day and a half at least out of a weekend. I'd be looking at 3 day weekend at least before even thing of something like that.

Wow. Oh and yeah I got the cheap permit last year but still sat in the shed going knowhere.

He does prolly does 1000-2000km a year And doesn't really do any of that where he lives, only when he comes to my place.

I don't think it will be much longer before they switch colors again, I do find it weird though that they had the trails pretty much open across the map before the thaw. owen sound and surrounding areas have got quite a bit of snow from what people are saying on here. my buddy has a cottage up there and said they got lots late last week too on top of what they are getting today, tomorrow and throughout the week coming up. its coming, but like you said, I will definitely be waiting for good snow and a solid base before I get a pass next year.

I say if ya got the time and money, go where the snow is. for some its not a problem to travel, but for others I guess we gotta wait. :o|
 
The traveling, lodging out of town and extra gas to trailer there and back is big bucks. I you can do it from the cottage or seasonal home it its a major cost. Then you're eating out as well on top of all that. Nifty maybe once but having time for 3-4 days away is only part of it. I have a trail running an 8 min walk from my place in PEC but rocks some ice ponds frozen on the trail only. ATV's all the way in the westerly direction to the trails end. I've seen and heard people going up north a bit and picking up the trail south of Stirling and other spots north of Belleville but they've had nothing the last two years. Bancroft is too far for a day trip. I tried to find some stay over place but nothing came up on the internet searches or other attempts and then it was all gone. Spring weather took what they had away.
