when I was younger and riding my exciter.a car pulled up to me on the country road. The doors flew open and someone signaled me to stop.I assumed it was the cops, wasn't sticking around to find out.I pinned it across a friggin ploughed field
back to the highway. They were right on my tail.I was going to the Floodway and thought..they will beat me there. So poured on the speed and all of a sudden nailed the breaks and did a quick turn around. This really pissed them.Started heading back to home, then decided to cut thru a farmers field that is between to houses, crossed a road and got to the River and I was gone.If it was the cops..I sure didn't get a ticket that time.hahahaha!!!
No speed limit along the hwy here..I don't think. It is 6o mph on Hwy,I blast by cars at 100 t0 110 mph on the SRX. Waiting one day until it is a cop car I race past and then the game is on again.... No ticket coming my way..
We were on trails in my area years back, pretty quiet area and the doo boys in the party were all fully pinned the whole way thru. No speed limits that I saw..loll

When I am running back + forth to Winnipeg, I never let the sleds in the ditches of HMY #1 get by me in my Subaru!
LOL!
I get a kick out of clocking them.

in MI the "safe and reasonable speed" thing only applies on the trail. alot of the snowmobile trails utilize seasonal roads which are county roads and therefore the speed limit is 55MPH. I ride around the Kalkaska area and there aren't even road signs let alone speed limit signs! There is a 2 mile long straightway the size of a highway and there will be the good ol Kalkaska county boy standing at the end with a gun. you dont have a chance. I've never had a problem with the sherriffs or DNR but I've heard they are starting to bust some chops for pipes and loud exhausts this year.

So Romig, How fast were you going? If it was like 65-70, I feel for you, faster than that and please do stay in PA where you won't be killing me or someone else. I've already had two close calls coming head on around a turn into people going way too fast for the trail we were on. Thats why NY enacted 55 mph. It was in reaction to too many snowmobile deaths.

So, I put a new cup holder on my SRX this weekend.. It certainly helps keep my beer cold, but I notice that when I ride up on Tugg hill that if my speed is any more than 75-90 MPH on the trail, my crazy straw keeps poking me in the eye.. Takes all of the fun out of the weekend if I poke my eye out with a crazy straw, or worse, if I spill my beer. It's a long distance between the bars, and the only thing I can think of would be to drive even faster to minimize trail time thus increasing my bar time. Would also allow me to get rid of the damn crazy straw.... Yep, well Guess I answered my own question... Drive faster, stay off the main trail, and rub the crazy straw through the sheild heat receptical... Now if I could just figure out how to keep my pot dry, and stop the hooker from falling off the back when I come out of the hole.. Man, this snowmobile thing is tough.... lol, have a great day guys, gotta do something, it's almost 55 degrees here in CNY today, and if it rains any more I am gonna put swimmies on my sled next to the beer holder....

Sucks you got a ticket, I didnt see how fast you were going?
A safe and reasonable speed on the trail is acceptable, However when you come upon traffic coming at you or up on a slower group...that does not mean you have the right to maintain your speed.. If everyone showed a little respect to the others using the trail, It would be alot safer. When I am riding with my kids and I see disrespectful rider's Putting it politely, I dont feel bad at all when guys speeding get nailed, or the drunks. They are getting off easier with a ticket than if they smash into me or one of my kids, or friends. There is a place and time for putting the hammer down....Thats not in a place with a bunch of riders around.
At the race track you have experienced riders...The trail is your average guy and family out for a ride...

I have been avoiding tug hill this year as the cops have been harassing people bad. Its not much fun when you get stopped 6-7 times in a day of riding. Pretty bad when our state is broke yet the state police are riding 2010 xp1200`s to sit on the side of the trail and write tickets. Its just a money grab and they are writing everything they possibly can.
That is really sad I agree our 50km/h speed limit is low but I have seen and been stopped by trail wardens and the S.T.O.P officers and have never been hassled. I am always respectful and thank them for doing their job and they smile and send me on my way. Ride sensibly in the twisties and open it up when it's obviously safe and we can all enjoy many years of riding on many miles of beautiful scenic trails.kirk700 srx said:We have RNC here in Labrador they have a 09 nytro rtx a 06 Apex mtn and some wide tracks a new Arctic Cat bearcat t1 some old VK 540's and a few scandic wide tracks we never used to see any until the spring of the year but since last year a speeding young feller on a pro x 800 ran down a trail patroller and broke his 2 legs and left him on the trail for wolf food , They are out every day our speed limits on our trails are 50 km/h which is reasonable. But there is no limits on the lakes and off the groomed trail, most of our trails are on crown land!

MY 2 CENTS SINCE I have had a camp there since 1988. It's no doubt a money grab. I ride there a lot with mixed groups of seasoned riders and newbies. WE as a group do not drink but we like to rip it a bit when the situation is right. By this I mean lots of open area ( field crossings). We also suport law enforcement IF they make an effort to rid the trail of drinks and non insured / registered sleds. Too bad that the reality is that the law enforcement groups have pressure to write tickets and generate money. I try and keep it within the limit but there are state trails were the limit is 25 mph, and these guys have been known to hide behind trees and pop out with radar gun in hand. Also I am tired of getting my credentials checked 3 or 4 times a day. I believe the ACLU would call this harassment since there is no probable cause to stop sledders or vehicle drivers just to check paperwork. I wonder how the public would feel about being hassled the same way in their cars on the way to work every day. It would not be long before the practice would stop. How about a little legal pressure from the ACLU on these guys to stop the harassment of tax paying, registration paying people?
This is why we go to Quebec a for a week. Up where we go there is no law, no people, no speed limits.

We have alot of sleds in our small town, Probally more per capita than any other province in Canada. This is our way of life here, I use my snowmobiles to put food in my freezers. I go hunting Caribou every winter. I pay for my trail passes, which is very reasonably priced for our quality of trails(120CND)per sled. I enjoy a good flat trail to my cabin and as anyone would.I also enjoy a flat ot run on a lake. I have three kids that will be using these trails in the future and I hope for their sake and everyone elses sake that someone does not clip them! As I will say to the boys that will date my daughter...Be careful cause I AM WATCHING YOU!!! Click Click!

And cops give tickets to people who "don't care what anybody thinks." Sorry, you have no sympathy from me.

X2 - Yeah, let's just push everyone out of the sport that don't do 80 mph from corner to corner and turn them into skiers. They pay to ride just like anyone else.
The majority of officers I see are in high traffic areas and I've yet to be stopped. Of course my speed is dictated by the conditions and running the risk of hitting a bystander that may slip and fall into the trail (they are after all walking around on snow) isn't worth being the first into the next corner.
The few officers I've talked to go after riders that show no regard for other's safety. The "I don't care what anybody thinks" additude is exactly the reason why Johnny law is out in force.
Perhaps I'm wrong, but the original poster's comments suggest he got what he deserved and yet still doesn't get it.

ROMIG, sledders like you are why trails are being eliminated, I would guess you are also piped, with loud silencers or maybe no silencers. I am glad you got a speeding ticket. I wished you were put in jail and sled was conviscated and sold at a scrap auction. Do not ride in Michigan. just go away. Al

The law exists, but I don't know anyone who got a ticket in MI for speeding. They very heavily enforce permits and registrations. Our cops are tax collectors and they chased me down at over 70 because they couldn't see my permit in my headlight recess. No ticket.Sxr700Bandit said:If I am not mistaken the trail speeds here in MI are also limted to 55 MPH.
