SRX motor opened up

that metal piece is part of the mechanical seal ,it all comes together.

I have never been able to get that seal out of the cases without destroying it. To remove the mechanical seal, I have gently pryed the lip off the case and then grabbed it with my duck bill pliers...it doesn't come out easily. If you want to change the water/oil pump shaft bearing you will have to get it out. When I have had my SXs + SRX tripples apart, I have always changed the seals and bearings on the oil/waterpump shaft as a precaution but I must say, I have never had one that actually needed it!

stop laughing at me.I took the mech seal out of the bag and that piece is there. It's just that when I removed the old one,the rubber/springy part came out leaving that metal piece in tact. Now I see from the new one it is all as one.
Give me a break man..first time I seen this....now I can change the friggin oil seal..... ;)!
live and learn :o|

I did not mean anything derogatory...thats the trouble with the written word...its hard to convey the real intent...[at least for me!]...Hey...we have all been there! Thats how we all have learned!
LOL!
I have definately learned most of my knowledge by fixing things til their broke!

no problem, got out the metal piece..had to slowly go around the inside with a dremel cutting bit..tapped it in more and she fell out.Now to get the seal out..is there an easy way also?

got the seal out with a pick, did a number on the pick(bent it back).

Here are pics of the job done and the torture on the mech. seal.lol
Now how easy is it to slide the new mechanical seal back on..that is the question(without destroying it I mean)lol

pic of new parts also.... ;)!

In regards to installing the mechanical shaft seal:

I found the best way was to find a deep socket thats drive opening[3/8 or 1/2] fits over the shaft and flat backside fully covers the outer lip of the seal, then tap on the open end of the socket until the seal fully seats in the case. This method results in the least deformity of the new seals metal edge.

Where are you buying your gasket/seal parts (US)? Piecemeal or kit?
I'm planning on a rebuild and a full top to bottom master kit would be very useful.

Bob..that was exactly how I was going to do it..but thanks for bringing it up..Ride.Race.Live will take that info and use it for his benifit I am sure... ;)!

well getting down to the crunch.I am now really debating the best way to clean up the cases outside. Can I use engine foam cleaner and rinse off with water or varsol.Pessure washer is another idea and maybe after all that still place cases in Dishwasher and give her 1 more good cleaning. Can you engine builders chime in here please.

ohh dont you worry blue im all over this thread haha...

the more info the better....

though some parts are hard to relate to... im sure when I get there it will click much better...

blue ive always used varsol to clean the cases... as long as they are bear... it helps alot taking off the sealant and left over stuck gaskets...

it looks like a messy job,got to be in the right frame of mind to do it.Getting cooler here and I am way behind on this.Snow already coming on the 25 th and 26th this months forcast.I feel super tired these days,no energy to do anything.guess I may not be ready when the snow flies.... :o|

yea... Ill be needing my buddys PIG propane heater from the looks of it in our garage along with a generator running to keep the lights going since my old man ran over the extention cord going to our new garage... lol... .

shity deal blue... go invenst in some cafeine pills and energy drinks and get to er!

washed the cases already.Just checking the new ring clearance. With new rings(just tried 2 so far) place in cylinder down about 1/2 inch my gap is .020 gap.Have to check if that is within specs. Some one know the spec on this??
It's all going to start happening very sold this re-build..getting things ready.

I noticed the letter T stamped on the rings..does that mean ring faces up or what?????

found it..ring end gap installed should be between 0.014 to 0.022 inches.I got 0.020..from factory..good to go then. Will check them all of course...
