8BU-10 setup ..round 1

for me i will never return to the 8dn-20 ..................they don't pull at all...about the 51-45 not sure the brand helix but it does alots of diferent things from a company to the other ........

well if I can get top end close enough to what the 8dn's give me..I am happy. But the 8BU-10's should get you there quicker..midrange pull is awesome.

I currently run Heavy Hitters and a Team Tied Secondary but when I was still using Yamaha clutching components here's what I ran that worked pretty good.

Primary:
Spring W-W-W[45/128]
Weights 8DN-20 42.1 grams
middle rivet 4.5
outer bolt[Hauck] 5.5
--------------------------------
Total 52.1 grams[actually weighed 54 grams on scale]

Rollers: 15.6mm[stock]

Secondary Clutch:

Helix: Hauck 54/44
Spring: Green at 70 degrees

On my sled this set up had a nice straight shift at 8400-8500 RPM but our piped + ported 700 SX would still beat it!

maybe I should try my 51/43 then..what you think. Also have a 49/45,but it is getting tuned in my 600 right now.... #$%&*

i think u should sell my that 51-43 lolllll

I just sold my 54/44..can't try it now.....
The 51/43 actually did good with stock setup for me..gave me my best speeds on ice years back..118 on speedo on a warm day in April.I won't be selling it.Got my 8dn-20's load 4.5 and 5.4 outer now, stock primary spring with the 47 helix red at 80 and rpm's are spot on..just haven't tried it for a speed run this year..
my mind is getting bogged down with all these different set ups..I don't even feel like going out today to test and it is a nice day out...damn

I have a headache right now,so don't know if it is that important to test today.Come weekend with the guys, will switch everything back to stock setup and ride.

:rulez: :rulez: :dunno: i hate to feel that way

lack of sleep and going to sleep late every night will do it to ya.....it is only -12 out today..what a wasted day..spring will be here soon.Maybe only 8 more weekends left to ride..that is nuts..season to short as usual.probably a early spring and flood is coming for sure now..have to prepare for that.Got to find a small boat now... #$%&*

Yup

Try the 51/43 if you've got one. Should be better. I'm pretending I didn't see a post that said 8DN-20's don't pull.

thanks madmatt..I think a 51/43 is underestimated by most..but it works.Worked with the 8dn,s for me.I know my 8DN's pull pretty good also.I can feel it when I pin it..my stepson tried it and he loved the pull, and that was before I found that damn exposed connector that was grounding the stator when I pinned it. #$%&*
The 8bu-10's have a really nice crazy midrange pull also..loved that.

I've been watching this thread because I used to be into this stuff and I've played with these weight quite a bit. This guy above is in the hunt. Some hints:

1. Your primary spring is too weak. Try a G/W/G or for more engagement a Hauck orange
2. Green secondary spring and look for a helix in the 51/45 area. Your finish angle is too shallow for these weights at 40 degrees.
3. Tune RPM's with the primary after you get these components in there.

By the way....if you are looking for a set up that is going to be light years ahead of 8DN-20's you might as well give up now. You might improve some aspects but you are going to suffer elsewhere. It's fine if you are having fun tuning but now you are spritting hairs.

I have an 8dn setup in my sled that flat out rocks from launch to midrange pull to topend. It isn't 8dn-20's though. ;)! I tried messing with the 8dn-20's last year and they couldn't come anywhere close to my current setup. I would still like to play with the 89a-10's and the 8bu-10's but not enough time this winter to mess with clutching to much just going to run what I know works for now.

This is the EXACT setup I ran last year. My secondary spring was a Hauck green.

I liked it for the most part. I am a big guy and I think the finish angle was a little too much. Felt like I had some belt slip on top. 0 to 85 on gps it really went good. Then it started to plateau and all I was able to get to was 97 on gps, once. Usually it was low 90's. Rpms jumped to 8100 and cllimbed to 8300. But at the very top the rpms would float to 85-8600. Hard to really watch them at that speed.
