hard starting srx

thats why they make the $17,000 new sleds now...electric start and all...turnkey and go.A true snowmobiler would have a pull start sled for sure...yes indeed!!!! ;)!

they might as well have enclosed cabs soon for the snowmobiler, with defrost for the front. This way no one need to dressup in their gear anymore.Just a sweater and jeans and your on your way..or a suit and tie to the company meetings.
PS:They are gonna have to have windshield wipers and fluid washer system also to clean the dirt off the shield.Surround system is a must also once enclosed and maybe a small TV for the passenger to watch a movie ..lol
Not so funny..it may come to a place near you one day...whatever the consumer wants they may produce. Now heated seats is such a waste of time and power steering for a sled is insane..How come the new generation of riders are going to have all these goodies. They will never experience what a real sledder has experienced in the past.

Oh yeah..I forgot about the air bags as well..how many will they need ..just one or six of them...lol

Where has the world of sledding gone..it is supposed to be all about roughing it in the great outdoors, get a little frostbite, fight the elements..exploring new territory .Everything has gotten to high Tech now ..way to much.

my $02...... :2strokes: Love this Smoking Side.... ;)!

Blue...We on the two stroke Yamaha side are Dinosaurs already...LOL...misery loves company!
All this jetting, porting, timing ect knowledge is becoming ancient history.

BOB..when you getting a no smoke sled?? As we get older we are going to need power steering..lol

Now if I ever win a lottery..I will order a new 4 stroker with every option available. It will have remote start and all.I will even have a full time person to ride it from my shed to the house for me..even run it a few laps for me to warm it up first..lol..I can dream can't I...lol

Actually if I won the 50 million dollar lottery..I would buy up every SRX in North America for myself..lol
I sat on an Apex in the showroom..did not like the way the seat felt and sitting higher.Love the laid back feeling on the SRX seat myself way better. If I had my ex brother-laws 72 Camaro that he spent his life savings into..I would have no need for anything newer..that car pulls like a crazy SRX ported. It is street legal, but barely..love the old iron..thats all...

I am still riding and improving my 2002 SRX for many reasons but primarily because Yamaha does not yet build a new sled that awakens my passion and desire to own it!

I ride with 800 Rs + 800 Etech Renegade SkiDoos, Nitros, Phazers, Apexs, Super Charged RX1s, SXs, Vipers, SRXs ect and I see nothing yet[especially from Yamaha] that keeps me awake at night and occupies my my mind with a desire to own like the original SRXs in the mid 70s, VMAX4s in the mid 90s, and the SRXs in the late 90s did.

Maybe my snowmobiling days are destined to end with the life span of my 2002 SRX...After 50+ years of riding, owning, + racing sleds....a sad thought indeed!

Are you listening YAMAHA?

well said BOB!! I wander if Yamaha thinks like us dinosaurs anymore...they used to..but there is a new generation of geek engineers there now I suppose to try and grab attention to the new riders out there.Hey first of all get the prices to drop in half and you may be able to sell more sleds and become #1 again..get back to basics..no need for high Tech here...its not a computer....its a piece of metal with a track on it..lol

Ok from my 98 snowmobile technical update book, word for word, first the fuel pump--- FEATURES a new fuel pump with increased output for the srx engine performance
check valve and by-pass hose incorporated to prevent plug fouling or rich running condition.

TECHNICAL TIPS
SUBJECT- HARD STARTING IN COLD TEMPS
problem- hard starting in cold temps, the engine is not gettong enough fuel from the carburetor choke circuit.

REMEDY
remove the choke plungers from the carburetors. using a small file, remove 1mm from the tip of the plunger needle. install the plungers and make sure the cable adjustment is correct.

so it was not an update just a mechanics tip.
so the very tip is where you file.I notice the tip has a slight point to it.After you file 1 mm off..the point would be gone..this sound right to you..as I have my plungers out and want to do the fix..just wandering about the tip after filing is done.

The tip probably acts like a needle valve in the half choke position, but must be occluding the inlet too much during full choke. Just my half baked theory of course.

Ok after doing the plunger mod on my srx and letting it set at freezing temps it took 3 pulls to start, my sons srx sitting right next to it without the mod took 10 pulls to start, not a real true test yet but looks promising.

Well it has only been three days but it was -5 f this morning and it did warm up some this afternoon, my srx with the plunger mod started in 7 pulls my sons without the mod would not start in 20 pulls and I gave up, I think this mod works.

I'll let you know about mine maybe next week.Did the mod and installed brand new fuel pump.Carbs are dry now..so I am curious how long it will take to start up dry. After that I will let it sit for a few days to a week and see how quick it will start..but again I always wander why my SXR600 starts in less then 1 pull......:o| and has more miles on them original carbs.....

The 600 starts in 1 pull when cold? thats pretty good I have a vmax 540 that will start in a 1/2 pull when warm but not when its cold.

My sled went from a getting tired of all this pulling machine to a single pull machine by swapping in another used 600 engine after a cylinder head o-ring failure causing a hydrolock took out the old one. Nothing else changed, just the engine. same carbs, airbox, pipes, coils, CDI, power valves, fuel pump, etc. Maybe my old magneto was a touch weak (and probably always was), or it has to do with manufacturing port variations and what-not, but the magneto makes more sense.
