For a comparison the red head 700 siting next to it took 6 pulls including the first 3 very slow ones to loosen things up.

Thats one of the benifits of the Aaens...they leave lots of room by the chaincase for batteries, spare fuel ect.

I'll have to get a video up of how quick it fires even when cold.
bluemonster1 said:I'll let you know about mine maybe next week.Did the mod and installed brand new fuel pump.Carbs are dry now..so I am curious how long it will take to start up dry. After that I will let it sit for a few days to a week and see how quick it will start..but again I always wander why my SXR600 starts in less then 1 pull...... and has more miles on them original carbs.....
Any update?

Don't know if this will help anyone but the choke has TWO positions, half and full. Over the last 3 years I have developed rock hard abs from pulling the SRX at least 20 times to get 'er to start. Then one day a buddy questioned why I had the choke only open half way, he showed me how the switch will flip 180 degrees for full choke.... I felt like such an idiot. The SRX has started in 2-4 pulls from that day forward.
I always thought it was the nature of the beast.... apparently it was nature of the owner to never read a manual

you are not the only one who has done that believe me...
Well I went to start my SRX after sitting for 3 months and it would not start. Had to pour gas into jugs twice before I could keep it running. Rode it for the day and rode perfect. Next morning, it took 8 pulls and the next morning, it took 10 pulls. - 13 Celsius while it was sitting. Starts and runs perfect for the rest of the day. Slide carbs a b*tch to start. Could my fuel pump not holding fuel in carbs overnight?
Carbs cleaned over summer, choke adjusted, slides sync'd, fuel baffles replaced, screws out 1 1/2 turns, etc. etc.

Make sure you start your Srx with the key switch to just on, and make sure your not on Grip/thumb warmer. once engine fires then you can switch to warmer. Also make sure your choke/cable is properly adjusted (full stroke).

Yes. The obvious stuff I already do.

Curious... has anyone measured the ID of the brass(?) pickup tube used in the enrichening circuit? SRX vs VIPER vs VMAX etc. MAYBE opening this up to allow more fuel delivery at start up???? Just "tinkin"...

we should all be used to how our sleds start by now.No real biggie because once they start the fun factor begins and makes you forget how long it took to start up...I don't leave my sleds outside in the cold anyways..always in the garage normally with above freezing temps...

Thanks SSB, will look into this further!
I have a hard starting 01 SRX also. Has anyone else tried the choke tube and air bleed restriction mods listed in post #129 of the thread that SSB listed: http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=61269&page=13&pp=10&highlight=hard+starting+srxs
Does anyone have part numbers for these or do we need to solder and drill or do something else?
I installed an 01 SXR700 fuel pump which didn't seem to help and am reluctant to file on the choke plungers because there doesn't seem to be much concensus on whether that works or not.
My 01 SXR 700 starts on the 2nd or 3rd pull and the SRX takes 10x that to start under the same conditions (soak time, weather, etc).
It sounds like I'm not the only one that want's this problem put to bed for good.

Mine starts in 3 pulls if left outside overnight in -8 Celsius. Kicks on the second pull. Starts in 5 pulls when I left it for 3 weeks. I ordered a used set of carbs for backup. Should I bother with the choke plunger mod? Will it then start in 2 pulls overnight a 4 pulls if left for 3 weeks?
