Extreme wind chills of -40 or colder will persist into the early afternoon hours after which time temperatures will start slowly climbing and winds gradually diminishing.
At these extreme wind chill values frostbite on exposed skin will occur in less than 10 minutes.

gona be around -29 tonight where I am tonight. just went out to check the fluids in the wifes jeep, and man is it ever cold out now! no fun at all!

yep my Dog has been hibernating in my Garage for the last few days already.He is smart,he doesn't want to go out even when I open the door..but kick him out to do his business...he's a suck for sure ..going on 12 years old,maybe he knows something I don't know..in people years he is about 84..lol and still doing good.

Living surrounded by water on 3 sides does have advantages. Lake effect snow and warmer temps as long as the lakes arent frozen. Minus 18 is the worst for us this week and that was this morning. Heck, I was out in the yard working on my sled at 9am or so. Didnt last long, but hey.
Just got another inch in the last hour, now the suns out. Now it's not, oops, there it is again, woohoo, it's snowing again.
I best stay outa the shop with those solvents for awhile.

Well I am on Natural Gas and if I had that temp my gas and hydro would be more than that for sure. We're nailed for 11 cent/kwhr here during the day much less at night with these smartmeters. Someone thinks we don't need furnances, refridgerator, freezer running and make our own coffee or meals etc during peak periods. The first three cycle on demand so there is no option there.
You must have some big heaters pumping a lot of electrons into that house to keep it warm. Even your wiring is likely warm under that load.

just a regular electric fan forced furnace.Digital programmable thermostat helps lower the temps when not needed so much.If my wife didn't use the clothes dryer so much,the Bill would be much cheaper.In the summer she hangs clothes outside on the clothes line.I figure that easily drops Hydro at least $50 a month alone.I even shut off my hot tub this winter first time in 11 years to save on Hydro and still the bills are high.Only keep the house set for 20.5 C day and 19 during the night..can't win...maybe will drop temps in the house to about 1 C and then can ride my sled around the house..no wind chills then...haha!

Most of us are pretty educated on ways to save energy these days, but what most dont know is how efficient some of the newer wood stoves are.
I have a 3500sq/ft house built in 1867. Still has some depression era windows and no insulation to speak of.
Centrally located, my wood stove can keep up even in -20 temps with a couple well placed low speed fans to move the air.
I had a Heritage insert in the living room and replaced it with a Regency. Burned 1/8 the wood for the same heat output.
I put a Regency in the dining room and only use it now.
Regency and Napoleon are about your best bang for the buck. From the late 90's models and up. They are starting to show up on the used market for good prices. If you can get one for $500 your getting a good deal. Never buy a small though. Your always feeding it. Too small of a burn box.
Back to topic. We ended up getting hammered pretty good yesterday for a few hours. Atleast 8" accumulation.
I talked to one of the area club reps and he said most trails are groomed but some have water still. Too much fresh powder after heavy rains is slowing the ground freeze.

we just took out our old oil heater and replaced it with propane at the cottage. works amazing! the heat is instant unlike the oil was. the only thing, is the oil burner was so efficant. just a few drips of oil and alot of heat. they say there phazing oil out, but iknow alot of people who are re doing there forced air oil systems. cottage was built in the 1950s so not much isulation.and when thatwind comes down the tlake youcan tell. its been - 20s here all week lake and ground is solid

check the OFSC map for club trail reports and on open closed status. Last I looked there is next to nothing officially opened. Its not worth anyones time to trailer hundreds of KM just for a few miles or unofficial runs and lakes only.
My sled is parked up in Durham. I checked their and yesterday it was green from Hanover to Markdale, went yellow later on in the day. Sometimes they do that to keep the sleds away until it is groomed better. Markdale to Owen is now Green. Just wanted to know actual conditions if someone has been up there recently or lives up there. Colour codes on a trail map do not help me very much. I have sled on red mrked trails and some of them have been the best trails to ride on.

just keep praying I guess.Here it is has just started snowing slowly again.Another fast moving Alberta Clipper coming thru and gonna come with 40 to 60 KM/HR winds also,but weekend normal temps.So I am going to ride like crazy Sat/Sun and Monday...Then Tues on the cold comes back....

What happened to me in the past. I get all worked up, run out get the insurance pass/permits and by the time the weekend arrives the weather got warm again and its turned to slop/slush and no base under it. Long range shows a warming coming next week.SRX_700 said:

my brother is going to be staging in durham tomorrow, then going to owen sound from there. there is snow up there! I would be going with him, but don't have the sled back yet.
