2014 sled anouncement

hmmmmm.....

2013 nytro 512lbs dry...........about 572lbs wet ready to ride

2013 a/c f1100 (same chassis as the new viper is off of)

518lbs dry.......about 598lbs wet ready to ride- 2 cylinder 4 stroke

so we add another cylinder to the engine with the nytro engine and what do you have? 600lb+ wet ready to ride snowmobile and 130hp and it cost almost $15,000!! :dunno:

original viper: 2002, 128hp 2 stroke triple with 489lbs dry weight...........approx wet ready to ride 545lb, cost $6200......... :itchy:

128hp in a viper? Sounds alot. Never saw more than 122 on any dyno.

Cat spherehead the whole development of the new viper(yamaha just sent a motor to TRF).From what i read this is not the end.Pretty sure the phazer powerplant is next in this chassis then the apex engine(its the three year plan they talk about)By that time each pure yamaha will be phased out, replaced by yami powered cat clones.Same price, way cheaper to make, more issues, more profit. Its a means to an end but the alternative was to close up shop altogether(at least that option lets yamaha die with diginity,as Neil Young sang"Its better to burn out than to fade away").

Well with all this Yamacat stuff it makes me even more attached to my 2002 SRX![if thats possible] It looks like my SRX and I are going to be together for a long - long time. I have been stock piling parts already for this sled and I guess I better keep building my inventory as sooner or later items will be unavailable.

Snowmobile Product Manager Rob Powers said he knows exactly how some Yamaha snowmobile customers are going to feel when they first hear the news.

“I mean, we’re a proud company. You can imagine the feeling in the board room when this was brought up. It takes a little time to digest this,” Powers said.

You guys should not feel like you are all alone as consumers. Im sure there are some employees (who have more heart and soul in it that any of us) are not on board totally. Bottom line, its a name. That chassis that has (had) arctic cat all over it was designed and built by guys who love the sport as much as we do. Their paycheck is just signed by a different company. As long as the quality is there, Im in... (reluctantly)

Well it doesn't make me happy the fact that Yamaha's will now be built in an Arctic Cat factory. But the biggest thing that truly pisses me off is that the new sled after taxes is $16000, I could buy a new car for the price of a snowmobile. Why can't Yamaha build a sled that the masses can afford. 16000 for 130 hp sled I could never justify the cost.

Wow, I hear a lot of trash talk on sites and in the garage between sled brands for fun but this is something else, the pure hate of anything Cat by many here seems a little over the top dont you think. No matter what you think no brand has been flawless

No Im not here for one post to defend cat, Ive got a lot of useful info of this site, I just dont post much. I own both a Yamaha and a cat and have had many different sleds from both brands over the years and had very good luck reliability wise with both. Ya I've blown up some cats and a vmax and a enticer, it happens.

My main ride just happens to be cfr 800 instead of my old viper right now and Ive had 4000 miles of trouble free service so far. Id buy another and would also seriously consider the Yamacat, nice looking sled. Ive been quite pleased with the reliability of the Suzuki motors that Cat supplied before, but think its great that Yamaha will come on board as we all know the reputation for reliability.

Anyway, flame away, I can take. It just seemed to be getting a little juvenile to the point of "Im taking my ball and bat and going home if Yamaha gets in bed with Cat who has not made a single decent sled for 50 years".....really??

Cheers, Todd

I for one dont think i have the right to bitch or complain about anything yamaha has or is going to do.

Am i fathfull shure but just like most of the guys here i have not laid down my money for a new sled in over 10 years!!! This is the main reason we are in forth spot.

My budys buy a new sled every year or everyother and they ride doos !

O well nothing is forever i for one like the new sled and hope there is going to be more new models to chose from.I will just keep rideing my smokey non compliant 2 stroke and watch and wait for the right sled that comes along that i just have to buy like my srx made me do.

.

I think it's sad all the cry baby talk. I've had alot of Yamahas and one Ski-doo and the doo blew so I went back to Yamaha and now have an 07 Apex GT which I love. One of My best friends has an 800 AC and we switch and His is awesome and He really likes mine.Cat sleds have dominated racing and Yamahas are know for reliability and quality and weight. Give it a chance and if not quite crying and switch brands, who cares baby talkers. GROW UP I think in the long run this will be a great relationship. My 2 cents!!!!

I very much dislike the quality standards artic cats manufactures their sleds to. However I have always admired many of the suspension and clutch designs. with that said, x2 with apex-17.

Just to add to that, from what I have heard about the yamaha 120 that cat builds for them currently, yamaha holds their sleds to a much higher quality standard then what cat builds their sleds to. In hind sight I kind of wonder if maybe that was the guinea pig for this whole thing.

I have to say it didn't come to a shock to me. I am convinced yamaha is making a solid choice here and will protect its name (quality) at all costs. I am very excited to see what this sled can do.

Biggest question i have...is it nose heavy like the nytro?

was at the dealer today and asked about the YamaCat.Said it was in the works for a while. They also agreed the prices are to high.Guy was telling me 1 Fox shock goes for $2000 on replacement thru Yamaha.Maybe separate items like the shocks are absurd and creating such a big mark up in the price of the sleds.
Anyway the way my SRX is running tonight,no reason to buy another.I luv my SRX..best sled ever built once dialed in proper.

exactly, I'm in the same boat. but I like the new Viper. Overall guys complain on this side no matter what, year after year.

kawasaki and suzuki did this with dirtbikes and atv's, at a lesser degree. They just changed the color of the plastic and name delete on side covers. Shared various models to each other, certainly would be cheaper to share then new tooling to build the same model. My daughters 2005 kawasaki klx125L dirtbike has a suzuki motor corp. sticker right on the frame head of it!

That part of using the cat chassis (which is more technology then the nitro by far) and then using the yamaha engine is ok with me, I dont see that being the end of yamaha at all. Just be curious to see if the quality will still hold up, I KNOW the engine is good but chassis durability, we shall see. Although, cats had about 3yrs of refining on it.

I just cant get over the prices of these new snowmobiles, wow, $15,000 for a 600+lb 130hp trail sled, not even the top of the line! The top of the line 2014 machine is gonna be close to $20,000 now!!!

add: ok, i stand corrected no other new stuff for 2014, but when the apex and nytro get axed the replacement will be about $20,000 maybe not till 2015, so sorry for the mistake on the 2014 top of the line 20k.. too rich for my blood.... sorry

I agree completely. it is a business, and I feel like yamaha will have increased the quality control in the cat plant, just as they have said. when I wen tto the show to see the procross chassis when it was first introduced I cam away impressed. the only thing I didnt like was the 2 stroke motors. dont trust them. and I have ridden the non turbo 4 stroke and didnt really like the motor as much as a vector motor. this solves my issues, and it should bring in a lot of NEW customers. thats what Yamaha needs to stay afloat and be able to make new products

where are you guys getting these prices? I dont see $16k anywhere

there are still some good deals at the dealers with the remaining 2013 stock.Today a brand new Apex was on sale for a tad over $11,000..but still can't see paying that much.We need prices in the $8000 range probably..still young potential buyers will have to make monthly payments to Yamaha and that price when done could double after 5 years of payments and tax's...how can you win here.Season does not run 12 months of the years.Last year for example here season was less then a month..

biggest issue is the rate at which people want to see new stuff. that means everything has to be retooled. has to meet federal standards. that gets expensive, and the cost is passed along. not that I dont want cheaper sled, just that it isnt going to happen. noone makes a cheap sled, just not reality anymore
