come to Canada and you will see it.I see them starting here at $14,999 and up...add tax's here on that and we will pay $1799.00 for a total of $16,798.00.Add extra warranty for 2 more years and i some extra options..$20,000 easily.Now add insurance on that yet..yikes!!!

I didnt say 16k, I said $15,000. This is what they emailed me when they came out.

I went and looked at thier site, seen the differnt prices you posted, they sent me what I posted, either way,still too much for me. Not knockin it, just too much $$ for the sled, still 600+lbs with 130hp. Its a nice step up though from the old stuff, hopefully it will expand from here on out and come boosted or get better. Will just sit back and watch a couple years progression before I buy.

That part of using the cat chassis (which is more technology then the nitro by far) and then using the yamaha engine is ok with me, I dont see that being the end of yamaha at all. Just be curious to see if the quality will still hold up, I KNOW the engine is good but chassis durability, we shall see. Although, cats had about 3yrs of refining on it.

I just cant get over the prices of these new snowmobiles, wow, $15,000 for a 600+lb 130hp trail sled, not even the top of the line! The top of the line 2014 machine is gonna be close to $20,000 now!!!

The deal with Suzuki and kawi off road models is that Suzuki and kawi had a merger a number of years back Even despite this merger, the only models that were in common are non high tech high profile models. Notice how no kawi and Suzuki street bikes are similar? They keep those separate to differentiate the two brands. I do not see this snowmobile endeavor keeping cat and Yamaha separate.
I don't like the prices to be sure. Also, even though cat has had a couple years to get it right in this chassis, they have yet to get it right.

well, it is what it is, so you either like it or dont like it. I know its not my favorite flavor but we can all complain and make excusues but cat has lead the industry in alot of differnt areas and so has yamaha, so has doo, so has polaris, so if they would mix it up a bit and make something better so be it.
You might like it, I might not, thats what makes this counrty great, we dont have to like the same flavor of ice cream.....LOL

over and out on the new viper, seems this is gonna be a mostly complaint thread anyways. I guess I did my complaining on the price. If ya like it, buy it, if not well, ride your old junk like me! :flag:
 
Regarding the prices, Yamaha sells the r1 sport bike for the same price as the viper. The differences are that the season is a whole lot shorter for sleds, and resale value of bikes is way higher. I won't even go into the viper lacking 1 cylinder, 50 (lowball) HP less, and a lot more weight than the r1.


Yes most on this side of try complain as there won't be 2 strokes from Yamaha. I am not one of those as I love the fx nytro, vector, and apex, as well as the 3 cylinder ventures. I think the nytro motor is really the best 4 stroke mill out there. If the new viper can prove itself in year 1, I will drop my complaints about the yamacat sled, except for the price gripe I have. To be honest I think my current worries about cash and prices will go away soon as I am in the prime of my career.

I think the main reason Kawi and Suzuki joined in the early 00's was so they could rapidly design a 250f motocross bike. Yamaha completely caught everyone off guard with the yz250f four stroke in 01 and was a huge success. Kawi designed the chassis while Suzuki designed the motor, the bike was a complete POS. They obviously traded other models as well but the kx250f/rmz250 was the only one I believe they designed together.

Maybe that's what cat and Yamaha are doing now, they are both in a pickle. Yamaha is in need of a chassis to fit today's riders that need a sled that can pound bumps and jumps( atleast they think they do) and Cat needs some motors as the future of Suzuki looks questionable, as well a some lessons in QC. Maybe this is just a temporary relationship, but I doubt it. :dunno:

I saw a comercial this morning of a dealership in Green Bay or the Fox cities selilng a 2013 polaris 800 for $7999. Yes its a 2 smoke and yes its a poo, but that is going to sway a lot of non brand loyal people. IMO, prices need to come down. Im 31, with a good job and there is no way I could justify a new sled...
 
I agree with you Jason. Same boat as you, I currently own 5 sleds and dont have a third of the cost into them as a new Yammi. I simply cant justify it and I think alot of guys feel the same way. With that said, I dont think we are ever gonna see a new sled we can afford anymore.

wow that is a great price really..for a 2013.Dealer has some Nytros(2013) here saled for around $9-10,000) still a little high.I really don't like the look of the Nytro for some reason..doesn't turn my crank/Apex is more appealing but still unafordable for me.If |I am going to spend that kind of $$ on a heavy sled..might as well keep riding my SRX..and spend the money on oil and gas instead..works for me.JD
 
I was also thinking last night about the hard core team green guy. Is he happy to have a great motor, or is he upset that his company couldnt come up with one and there is a "snake in the grass"? he knows in a few years cat will have a motor that is up to speed, but not just yet. Kinda like our side with the chassis...

I saw an ad on CL for a 0 mile brand new 2012 RS VECTOR for $7995!!!! This was a dealer in Appleton.

I am starting to wonder what the mark up is on new sleds.If dealers here can drop prices like 4 to 5 thousand..and still make money..something not right about that then.I hope they don't get them for like $5000 or something,that would really piss me off...lol

Anyways just finishing lunch and back out riding again on the SRX..beautiful day here and calling for beautiful temps all next week.Got to ride when the Sun is shining boys..$$$$$$$ on gas.... :o| but you only live once.I could be dead next week..so I say enjoy while the pickins are there.. :sled2: :sled2: :sled1: :sled1: :rulez:

Back in the day my dad was drinking buddys with a guy that owned a new car dealership. They sold multiple brands and my old man bought a few brand new trucks DIRT CHEAP. Apparently most dealerships have to sell X amount of units to get them at Y price. By breaking even (or even lossing a lil) on a couple units to make quotea's they come out ahead in the long run. Dont see why this same practice wouldnt happen in ATV dealerships.
 
There is a lot of this economics talk going on in our gang as well, I did alot of saving in 08 to buy a new 09 cfr800(10,000 give or take), kept it for 2 seasons(length of warrenty ) then traded up to the 2011 thinking I was going to play this game for a while, trading up every couple years, but the way the snow has been I get less and less inclined to invest much more into the sport. So I guess I,ll stick with what I have like others for a while, but Id likely stick even longer if Id went to a 4 stroke last time...just not ready to give up 2 strokes yet!

I may be wrong , but that might be part of Yamahas problem, build a reliable sled and people dont get rid of them???

Well i purchased my warrior in 2004(new leftover,big discount with trade of my indy500),then my brother got his 2006 Nytro in Dec 05.With the yamaha four strokes you can have less worries about the mileage racking up(regular oil changes,replace bearings,rebuild shocks,etc).This was one of the reasons i didn,t want a two-stroke as a primary sled.My next sled might be a two-stroke because i can keep the warrior and not have to worry about being sledless if the smoker goes poof.Kind of leaning to a indy600sp for next season or a MXZ600sport carb if they offer a three year engine warranty(never thought i say that last week).As for the future of yamaha?The Viper is just the beginning of a pure line of yamicat clones(one chassis,different motors).Not my cup of tea.............
 
I laugh when people say how superior and how much more trouble free miles they get out of a 4- stroke. Give me a break... I have logged more trouble free miles on my Vmax 4 that you could shake a stick at. And YOU WOULD HAVE TO PRY THIS SLED OUT OF MY DEAD COLD HANDS BEFORE I WOULD SELL IT. I have owned more Yamahas than we all have fingers and toes so don't tell me that I need a $15000 4-stroke sled to be satisfied. I don't need and never did need computer controlled this or computer controlled that, sled manufacturers now adays are pricing themselves out of business. When you tell me this is the best suspension and then next year tell me it was crap and this ones better, give me a break. Sled manufacturers have to realize that us weekend warriors aren't going to pay these prices to ride 30 times a year. Yamaha if your listening build a cool looking sled that the masses can afford or justify the price. I'm done with this thread now.
 
I am tired of every one having to complain and whine because Yamaha has made the brightest decision in years, in sted of letting the sled part of the compainy die slowly witch It has if u use your head and look at the pased few years. They made the disigion you did not! The compainy did what they thought would move forward for once in years. Stop complaining the passed is the passed and the present is the present! What are you goin to do about it? Answer: shut up and see what happens...
