Giving the SRX a face lift

Hi guys!

Polishing pipes on the kitchen table is nothing, I`ve ridden my Honda PX 50 through our house, first into my workshop in the cellar, then into our cellar-livingroom, then up the stairs and up to our livingroom.. I think I have a picture somewhere.. I`ll post it if I find it:).

Today I pulled the carbs of my SRX. Very easy, only thing I didn`t think I would have to do was remove the oil/gas cable in order to get the airbox out.

I actually discovered something crusial (?) , that might have made my sled perform "worse" . Read below.

By the way the carbs were 100% clean, couldn`t find any dirt or shit/water in the floats. I also checked the float heights.

After cleaning.

When I was done with the carbs I started cleaning the airbox and look what I discovered:

The previous owner obviously had some bad luck while trying to get the airbox back in place. This was the centre cylinder.

This was the MAG cylinder, the PTO is easiest to access so that explains why the PTO was the only one he got back on right.

I wonder how this could have affected my engine?. I wonder if it could have anything to do with the bogging I got in the powder snow?. (exhaust making it`s way back into the hood and then found an easy way back into the motor through the wrong-installed-airbox-rubber?, or could snow get in there?. Just querious).

I aslo but the plate with the three holes in, back into the airbox because the previous owner had removed it for some reason.

Are these holes stock?.

When I tried getting the airbox-rubber properly fitted on the carbs I understood why he had some bad luck, however:

I removed the upper part of the airbox and then it was a piece of cake!. Easy!. I bet all you guys know about this.. but I didn`t :).

I put the bender "foam" in place, however I was somehow shocked because I was sure the "foam" would have the wide end against the engine so that it could block out steam/smoke but I was wrong.. wellwell.

I sent TURK a PM and asked about wether I should change my gears or not, he said I should be happy with 130km/h since I have 2" lugs, he also said that it wouldn`t climb any better if I got a higher gearing, so.. I will stick with the gearing I have.

Gees I can`t wait to get done with the sled, hope there will come some snow soon.
My package with parts for the V-Max 4 I`m working on and the SRX parts are now sent from Rich, wount get the SRX done before I get that package so it will be another two weeks before it`s all done.. I think.

Wellwell that`s all for now:)

hey you are lucky you didnt pop the cylinders, with those boots like that.more air getting to the carbs, leans them out.may have been part of the reason she had bogged on you.glad you caught it though before she went blamo!

thats what i was just thinking...

Those holes arte stock in the bottom of the airbox.
You are going to have to jet leaner now putting the dividers back in.They do make more power with them out.

Wow! This is the first time I looked at this post.
Nice work.
I'm inspired to do some work on my hood.

Hi guys !
Thanks for all the replies, it`s so nice to find lots of new replies:).

Redmate, I don`t think it would run lean because of those boots, but it would be different if it were the intake boots that were faulty. (I`m sure you know what I mean if you think about it). I`d rather say it`s more likely to run richer with the rubbe blocking parts of the carb-air-inlet, but I don`t think that`s the case anyway.. .
(am I wrong ?).

Valin, yeah I noticed that the arrows were pointing the wrong way. But, I don`t think it matters, the only reason for the arrows being there is that you will remember what way the belt were installed the previous time you put it one, so that you get it back on the same way if you take it off.. .
Another one of my teories, hehe:). Or is the belt designed for rotating a specific direction?.

Pro116, thanks for letting me know that the holes are stock:).

Bischof thanks:).

Wellwell going to the dealer tomorrow and pickup a new main light bulbe, I crushed the other day when I was starting my sled for the first time. I heard this wierd noise when I pulled the starter rope. Suddenly I heard a little "bang", the bulb had been hitting the primary clutch.. wooops.

Wellwell:)

THat isn't the whay to fix that hood you don't ever use fiberglass on plastic you have to use epoxy and you have to first use a an adhesion promoter.
He never used fiberglass on it. Go back to the first page and look at his repairs.

Hi guys ! :)
Like ejcamaro said, I never used fiberglass. The cracks were properly welded by a professional on the inside.

Today I went to town to buy some christmas gifts. They sure are funnier to give then to buy. I`m sure you know what I mean.

Anyway, I found this awesome thing. You know how many people put "moose" "plates" on their house/garage, I found a much nicer one:

Here`s a picture of the moped I talked about earlier, here it`s in our cellar, I couldn`t find the picture where it was upstairs.

Wellwell I also went the dealer and got a new headlight bulb for the SRX:).

Hey I found this picture, thought was a little funny, alot of offtopic shit in my thread now but it`s OK since it`s Friday evening now:).

Taken four years ago, I had just purchased my very first sled, a 1983 V-Max 540 with a Rotax 583 RAVE engine and a skid & track from an Arctic Cat Thundercat 1000.

I guess I don`t have to explain anything more.

A picture of the beautiful sled... hehe.
