If you search for the post" y srx hard to start not vipers" there was a lot of discussion on the fuel loop issue and differences from other models/years. The info on this begins after about post 80 or so.

If there are trails in gun that would probably be more fun!!!! I rode kal-haven last night and it is very long and straight!!!
there is about 100 miles around gun lake to ride i know them well. i have a place to park on the lake and there is food and store nearby. just have to see what the weather does for snow. right now the trails are gone. saturday the 20 is the local gunlake winterfest we could go then to the winterfest then hit the trails that afternoon. they have a bikini contest polar dip music games and there will be people on the lake riding and racing. the trail head is right at the festival location.

Ill go if I get my oil pump situation figured out.....

Its not using oil..... it used to be adjusted so when at idle, the idle mark lined up on the oil pump...... when at WOT the mark on the arm was past the mark on the oil pump.....too far

so I adjusted it so the WOT mark is lined up at WOT......idle mark is again past the idle mark on the pump.....too far

wrong Pump?????

wrong arm?????

there is only a wot adjustment, on the ones that have the lines you line up the lines at wot, the other way of adjusting the oil pump is measuring cable gap.so how many gallons of gas have you gone through? and you filled the oil tank to the top and it hasnt dropped at all?

so its droping, find the exact amount of fuel and find exact amount of oil. example: 16 oz. oil to 6 gallons is 50:1 which is ok, but thats with varied throttle like normal riding, if you drive with alot of 1/4 throttle cruising and no half to wot the amounts may be lower because the pump is variable depending on throttle, i beleive its 50:1 at wot but have seen no study or proof to back this, just that most premixes are 50:1

You did bleed the system before running, right? These pumps do not self bleed. At 8 gallons used you should have used more oil. Are you running a premix during the break in? Keep running premix until you are sure the oil pump is adjusted properlly and working correctly. Al

I did bleed it, I never took the oil tank off so I never even got one air bubble to come out...... but I did bleed it

this is what it looks like.... I circles the alignment marks and the 2 indicators on the arm hopefully it turned out...

my question...... should I adjust it for WOT???? or Idle???? its one or the other....

Here ya go, this is by daman. Post #4 and follow the directions.

http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=68775&highlight=oil+pump

I read daman's thread about how to adjust a '98 600 XTC oil pump also....... neither one of these threads shows the same adjustments I have!!!

I only have an inline adjustment and cable gap...... I have it adjusted so the alignment marks line up at WOT but, I cant figure out why theres a mark that looks to be a mark for an oil pump idle setting.....

look at my pic above, the way it is pictured it is showing the pump adjusted to WOT like I have mine adjusted now...... on the arm there is a second little tab with a line on it (grey lines in Pic) that goes past the alignment mark on the pump body if I adjust it so its right at WOT

sunday it was adjusted so the "idle" adjustment lined up and at WOT the oil pump should have been pumping too much oil!!!

which way is better?????

is it possible to adjust the oil pump to deliver too much oil?????
or does the pump work like a ball valve, meaning if it is past the max adjustment does it actually pump less oil??????

Well, obviously more oil would be better than less oil. A set of plugs is cheaper than another rebuild.

I will check on my 97 600 twin with the updated oil pump to see where the marks are. Mine was done by the yamaha dealer, so mine should be right. I know mine uses oil like it should now. After 90 miles of riding, it is usually about 1/3- 1/2 empty.

I won't be able to check the settings until I get up north next week, and then i won't be able to post until the following week. Hopefully you get it figured out by then.

At this point I would run pre mix until you a re 100% certain it is getting enough oil from the pump alone. I also would definitely run it even if you have to premix it for a few tanks. The season is always too short.

It would take a while for it to foul out plugs. Mine only went though like 2 sets of plugs when the oil pump was giving WOT oil output at all times when it failed.
