Worst Winter Ever

And right now my sled is tore apart. :o|
I thought I did my drive bearings already, but dumbazz me did my buddies XLT bearings. Damn emergency brake is giving me a ton of grief. How can something so simple be such a pita? Wanted to set it on fire last night so I walked away.
Speedo bearing is so messed up that I didnt even find a ball bearing left in there. lol
If I can get the damn chaincase off I could be out riding again today. If there's anything left of the trails after the weekend warriors are done. :letitsnow

you should go now while there is still good snow! next week looks pretty bad. my brother went up today and said the trails were awesome! he started in durham which he said was a little rough, but once he got into owen sound area....he said they were great. you really should go man before the next thaw. all ya gotta do is drive to your sled and go for a rip! I would....you might regret it if ya don't.

I coach both my kids hockey teams so I can't head up until tomorrow night. Going to do a midnight run before the thaw starts Monday/Tuesday. I sled on red trails all the time. Problem is the gates are usually closed/locked on some of the trails when they are red. Oh well... I just turn aroind and go back. Should get a couple hundred miles in before the big 3 day thaw.

Is the axle bent? What is the extent of your damage?

I'm about 95% sure the axle is not bent. Did some measuring at a local machine shop this morning. The chassis retainer is a little messed up and the end of the shaft got mushroomed. Had to cut the bearing off the shaft and grind off the mushroom, but thats ok. The shaft itself is scored alittle also. A fine file and some sanding got it smoothed out. As for the chassis retainer, once the bearing is locked down, that shouldnt matter. It's back to original shape as much as it's going to get.
I'll know by how long the new bearing lasts if I'll need a new driveshaft or not.
Ready to reassemble as soon as the wife is finished with me.
How far into the speedo side does the short cable section slide in? I have about 3/16 inch. Maybe I dont have it all dug out, but it looks like I do.

Warming and it will be killing limited trails and purging what little green there is further north. Minden to Bancroft and south on Monday to Wed are above freezing and rain 3 days (~25mm) or maybe one day in Bancroft based on the THEWEATHERNETWORK.

Watch the RED take over again. Thursday the temp drop again but the damage is done to the minimal ground snow that won't take it.

This is in Carlsbad springs, the trails could not have been better! They were perfectly groomed and hard pack with great traction.

It slides in quite aways, more into the shaft then what slides into the speedo drive assembly. I don't usually pull the chain case off its to much of a pain in the @$$, it will squeck by with out taking it all apart. Just my 2 cents

I think everyone is just a little disappointed about the lack of snow in southern Ontario, I know I and my riding buddies are. We heard all through the fall how this winter was suppose to a normal Ontario winter with normal snow accumulations but it has been anything but. This being a snowmobilers forum some may feel a little better venting with other sledders. My mistake was tearing into my sled just before Christmas when I should have been riding on the snow we had, instead I got my first ride on it the Sunday before the thaw came it was only a 10 km shake down ride. I won't be making that mistake next year all my improvements will be happening in late summer that way when the snow gets here the srx will be in the garage gleaming waiting for the first ride.

well im headding to northbay ;)! all that rain is gonna be snow! 30 cms, should make my run to matawa real fun. lucky i have freinds who would take in a snowless snowmobiler.

Well boys and girls, I got my sled all fixed just in time for the snow to go.
Highs of up to 10c or 50f with flood rains for the next 3 days.
I'm not real optimistic about the trails surviving or recovering.

I think owen sound is supposed to get up to 10cm before the rain, I know we'll be getting around 5cm which is really just a tease. but I think the season could very well be shot after all this rain we'll be getting.

Lucky

Yeah it appear you're in a free range area. No trail pass BS to deal with just get out and drive if there is snow.

8" not much though and if you hit some plow furrows you be heading back for a change of clothes, down under. Bolders can pop up from the frost as well. They get your attention if you clip one with a ski.

Ok so we are getting 2to 4 inches of snow today but tomorrow it is supposed to be 40* and the next day 50* WTF!!!!!! :o| :o| :whine: #$%&*

Well its raining already. I'll be pushing it further east and south soon enough since is passing over and getting us all until Wed.

LOL Who needs a trail pass. Knowone IMO

woke up at 3am to take a leak, and I couldn't see across the street to my neighbors house it was snowin so hard! got about 5-6" last night! but will be losing all our snow by Wednesday....such a shame!

Anyone have a snow report for ~25 miles north of Thessalon, 35 miles ENE of Sault Ste. Marie? Going fishing there in that area in a couple weeks. I see D106 is in the red on the trail map. We have a lot of rocky terrain to traverse and it's only do-able if there's a couple feet on the ground, off of the main trail that is. Thought it was worth a shot seeing that everyone is talking about Ontario snow.
