Lets say we have what you would call a old fashioned winter ! Lots of snow seeing a good foot on the roof of the house, but mild temps for a coulple of days but still snow at night.1Hour north of me they have snow banks of blowed in snow that are the highth of the eves on some houses.People have to tunnel out of there houses thru 8 foot of snow. They showed the groomer operater jumping off the tracks into the snow on the news last night and he sunk down to his armpits.Another cold snap will make the trailbase better than it has for some 30 years!!Now thats when we say yee Ha

Ya I heard there's lots up north. My buddy lives up in Huntsville and says there's almost 7ft up there! My cottage is just north of Huntsville about 20mins...can't wait to get up there!
Edit again: they are saying it's the most snow in 35 years.

Best start to winter in about 6 years still going strong(until tomorrow).Got over 660 miles on my new rtx phazer and added 200 miles to my warrior.Even with the rain last week we got some sea effect snow and made the country going the best so far this winter. My brother(7skulls)had to pull the trigger on a new 2014 mxz600 carb with this great snow(last one left at the dealer). We put close to 200 miles in the last two days on the new pair.Thats the good news, the bad news is rain tomorrow.Heres a few pics from today......Pic with the enticerII is from last week(got to add a Yamaha smoker).

Many thanks.Lots of open areas but its wise to only travel off the trails when a solid base is down.Even then theres a chance of hitting a rock(Did this 3 years ago to my warrior, cost a grand to fix).Got to stick to the old routes(been riding on the back country for twenty years),good memory, and proceed with caution.Ive watched your last couple vids. The weather here in western PA is terrible. Rain, then no rain, then cold, then rain, then warm again. Calling for 51° tomorrow with a chance of more rain. No snow till Thursday or Friday, and even then, just a covering. Can't ride anyway. All three sleds are down. Waiting for parts to come in tomorrow, and waiting for one sled to come back from the shop. Third sled is done for the season.

Its been raining all jan.!!! plus 10 and still raining...and more rain tomorrow. Literally no snow left. Tracks are becoming ice covered mud and dirt and all of the ponds and bays are loosing ice fast. Are we the only ones having to go through this???

Yes, but when you guys get snow. It becomes winter virtually overnight when you get a couple of feet in one go. I can take month or more to build up a foot or more hear. I still never bought any passes. Good thing even though it looked very good in Dec with the early Artic temperatures. Everything froze up and what snow came was fluffy and stayed apart from normal settling. But nowhere near enough for a base let alone a healthy layer to ride on. Its gone now. I guess we just have the frost in the ground still. Park the skis and roll out the wheels.Still in the pluses and starting tomorrow night its gona rain all week... Alot of lawns are nothing but grass now

we have a lot of snow now to ride anywhere here.It is plus 2 C now but cooling off to -12 C tonight.Weekend gonna be around -2 C,so will finally get a chance to ride the old SRX all weekend. To bad the damn gas prices spiked up again, but have enough gas here from last weeks prices to fill 2 tanks on the sled.It looks like I won't get the miles in this season as last..not even close.Guess I am starting to loose the enthusiasm for riding finally.I just go out for the occasional ride now .do my loop and come back home.Sleds are getting to old to go to far out anymore.I do not do any night riding anymore as well.Been a rough winter here and can't wait for Spring actually..sick of the cold spell this time around and the icy roads .Thinking of selling the SRX and just keeping the SXR for a ride once in a while.I have to start saving a little more for my retirement in the years ahead also. But it is nice seeing the younger generation buying up these old sleds and keeping them on the snow..

Since I didn't see any U.P. posts in this thread I'll say this, so far we've had a terrific start to winter, best in years for sledders. The eastern U.P. has lots of snow. In the woods along the north shore it's mid-thigh deep in most spots. The western U.P. is the same or better, specifically Houghton and Keweenaw counties. I think Calumet is in the 150" range of snow so far. I looked at my quad last night, use it to plow my 250' driveway, and I have 45 miles of plowing in so far this season. Seems like every week we've been averaging 6-10" of fresh, in fact we're getting dumped on right now.

It's back to cold here and the trails seem to have survived the thaw. Week before this we had to much snow to ride. lol

in the east...we had a good solid 3ft on the level...couldn't ask for better...few mild days screwed that...cant even ride now...hard to say what the rest of the winter will be...in the maritimes it goes from one extream to the other in a matter of hours......R2R
yeah we had stupid weather here the last 2 days we were out at our fishing camp and were blasted with 90kmh winds maybe more then clearing blue skies then wind again with a down pour rain then snow all in 2 days very weird weather as of late

The snow conditions are the best they have been in years (started riding before Christmas) the temp has pretty much remained under the freezing mark with the exception of only a couple days, it has probably averaged in the mid to low teens since early December so the snow pack is still powder which makes the boondocking awesome we have been riding 3 to 4 days a week as a matter of fact we are going tonight. oh ya and its been snowing a lot to.
