your belt side clearance will be larger if you machined the sheaves not smaller.
you check this by having the belt sitting at rest all the way down in the front and slip feeler guages between the belt sides and the sheaves, so if you took out the edges and blened it into the sheave your clearance will be wider, it will raise up the engaement speed some because the moveable shave must travel more to clamp the belt sides. Your looking for .020-.025", I bet your bigger and while larger belt side clearance is good for drag racing to slam in on the belt it doesnt work out too well for trail riding trying to move the sled slowly, will just grease/burn the belt edges.
way to fix it is to use offset collars for the fixed sheave, bring it back to whatever you took out of the sheaves for overdrive. hauck sells them in all differnt thickness .
